Depends where you were, CB had some sets overhead for sure and it was fun, clean and offshore til mid afternoon. There were some closeouts, but the higher the tide, the more open it got.. The inside became fairly brutal though for that last little hack section.

    Awareness

All I have to say if people stay aware, we can all have fun. There are too many people out who have no idea who is around them and just paddle for every wave. It really gets dangerous. I am not trashing anyone, we all surf because we love it...just please be respectful of your fellow surfers.

Was anyone out near access 39 during that last swell we had? Not naming any names, but there was one surf school out there with all of their soft tops just cutting everyone off and getting smashed. On our way out we saw the surf school ring leader drop in on like 5 guys. Is that what surf school is for?-teaching improper etiquette? Seriously....Everyone has a right to learn to surf, but those doing the teaching should know better.

Hope everyone has fun wherever you surf....!

yeah, thats definitely right...but on the other hand, if i see someone thats a complete kook and they cant ride a high line and thus can not draw enough speed to catch up to me when i drop in on them, then it's fair game. i dont just drop in on anyone, when im out i'll watch how everyone is surfing, and if someone is a total goon, and they're missing set waves and messing it up for everyone.. then i dont feel bad about it at all... if anything they can watch my ass down the line and see how its done haha. stuff like that exists all over the world, so im not going to give anyone slack. no one gave me waves when i was starting out, so i see no reason to break the cycle.

    Ivan:

Yeah man, you are spot on. I hope that's not what you thought I meant man. Giving waves...no, although I will occasionally give a wave if it is a buddy or a mutual thing going on. The goons that you are talking about are fair game in those instances....especially if they are out in surf that they shouldn't be in. If you just have to paddle out in surf you really aren't ready for, just stay out of other surfer's way and just watch....or just stay on the beach and watch good surfers techniques and learn....

The surf school thing though......that was lame

    Over hyped? Hmmm...

Well, Just so all you Bill being over hyped talking fellows out there know, Surfline is saying this for Saturday:
    FAIR-GOOD
SURF: 6-8 ft. - head high + to 3 ft. overhead and fair-good conditions.
Fun SE swell from Ana; standouts see bigger sets with the favorable tides Lingering SE Ana swell early; bigger sets likely in PM as Bill swell moves in Solid long period SE/ESE swell from Bill

We'll see huh!? It's like being a little kid knowing that "Santa" is coming, but not sure what he is going to bring.....

Who's not even going to try wb this weekend? I want to hit up CB I think just due to the crowd. Don't really know any other sic spots? I wonder if Fig 8 will be happening.

I doubt you will find very many helpful suggestions asking that question on this forum. My suggestion is to look at a map and pick a spot. BTW, if you don't think it will be crowded at CB this weekend, you might want to lay off the pipe.

So, this thread is long, but now that you guys have the swell over there, was Bill over hyped? Every swell that hits either coast gets hyped up, and from the pics and cams I saw this morning over in NC, it looks really fun....

But did they overhype it? It looks a foot or so over head and pretty clean... Its only lunch time. You guys let me know if you see any of these illusive DOH sets. Either way, have fun. Its a few solid days of swell... And long period windswell is basically ground swell... So, that swell should be acting very "california-esk"

Today around eight I was out at Hamlet Ave., Carolina Beach and I saw a freak wave that was at least 9 foot! I was close to crapping my shorts cuz im only 4 foot 9 inches, and then later while I was paddling out and another freak wave came and broke right in front of me the whitewash explosion was a little taller than the wave and it looked unreal. I wanted to watch it go all the way to the beach but i was about to get pounded if I didnt do anything. By that time it was too late to get me and my board under it, so i got a huge breath and swam to the bottom and hooked my hands into the sand, but got tumbled anyway. That wave looked a little bigger than the first one.

Yeah I wet in for a while after that to, and only surfed more inside waves the rest the day which were still overhead on me, too bad it was closing ot today, I was paddling for this 8 footer today and saw it was closing out, but i rode it anyway to show that menehunes arent *****'s and arent afraid to charge!

    Swell

    zach619:

Yeah man, we definitely got some solid surf today for sure. Most of the sets this am were overhead to well overhead in Wrightsville. Early on they were walling bombs but got better shape throughout the morning, into the day and evening. There were some sick ones coming through the closeouts though this morning if you found the right one-but that is just where I was. I had buddies all over the island that caught it good as well. The best surf we have had in Wrightsville for a while. Should have another day of fun surf tomorrow as well. I'm sure some good photo will show up in the next few days....Especialy from up North a bit...Dude from Surferphotos and SurfCarolinas photogs will probably have some up soon....

Nice, glad to hear you all had a fun day. I can't wait to see some shots of CB and WB. I bet Atlantic Beach etc. had a good day too. Its good to hear that everyone was able to get out and give it a try today. I know a couple of days ago a lot of people were worried about that swell getting way outta control. Sometimes a couple feet over head is all you want.
