I was rooting for Wilson to win the title & Slater to win Pipe oh well

My thoughts exactly. Don’t like him, but amazing surfer. Him, John and Felipe will be very fun to watch over the next 20 years.

 

So I was able to watch the Gabby Conner heat yesterday. I am on the same page as most on here, just not a huge fan of Medina... That said, I see Conner with Medina combo'ed right out of the gate, and Im like hell yeah, this dudes going to take him down. And then Medina comes back and gets 2 of the best waves of the event almost back to back.

Was definitely pulling for Wilson, but Medina fought hard and had some good waves come to him.

I just don't like his style... specifically his double handed stall that he does... but his style wins championships apparently.

 

That heat....those 5 minutes of that were essential comp surfing. Connor is a real up and comer, immediately combos Medina, and Medina looks lost, pulling into closeouts. Then the 9.4 on the left and the momentum swung Medinas way. Why Connor let him have that next huge backdoor bomb - where he got the 10 - is beyond me. Connor takes off on that wave, possibly the outcome changes.

Agree on the two hand front side drag. It's not pretty to watch, but is good technical front side tube riding technique to the judges I suppose - to hang in the barrel longer.
