Come on dude. Kolohe was pushing it to other levels? He definitely pushed himself and did better than expected. But Medina beat him easily and got the biggest wave of the heat

i just rewatched the round 4 heat 2 with brother, gabs and bede.

bede/brothers waves were all set waves. medina took the in betweeners and got longer barrels. he only beat brother by 1.5 pts so it's not like it was a blow out.

And I'll give you 3:1 odds the conversation will go something like this: "Yeah Medina won, but did you see..."

I don't know what you were looking at. Both Bede's waves were small. Medina's were comparable in size to Kolohe's. He got the scores because his were longer.

Medina won the contest, fair and square. (Dunno about all this conspiracy stuff, wouldn't surprise me if it were true, wouldn't surprise me if it was BS). In the absence of proof I feel he won the contest fairly. Do I think the contest showed who the best surfer was out there? No sir, I do not.

In my completely subjective and impractical fantasy world I would have had JJF, OW, and AS all out there at once for the final in a winner take all free-for-all. That would have been something to see.

yea this is my quote from yesterday, wtf did I say.boy I am mad that slater won,but gabs was the only one who could beat him.so I guess u can say gabs is better than jjf and slater put together, yea right lol.

if u noticed what he was doing, and how he won, like I said on here many times...priority control....

medina kept getting priority and making sure slater didn't get the good waves.hed sell jimmy slade on a shytty one,Kelly lost priority and it kept going.best contest, best semi I ever saw.the final ahhh boooo

Granted Chopes has no back to its wave so the "wave height" is up for constant argument, but how big do you think the biggest faces paddled into were yesterday and how big was the Laird wave? 14 years is a long time for progression even if that was a tow-in.

So would Nathan Fletcher and Bruce Irons. Guys are towing in to much bigger waves than Laird's, but not paddling.

Surfer has a good interview with Medina that just went up.

    an interesting quote:

After you won those World Tour events, many put their money on you to be the first to bring the world title to Brazil. How did you deal with that?

Brazil is very “needy” of champions. It’s even more so with surfing, because we’ve never won the title. I mean, to have people believe you can be a world champion is awesome....

Brazilians have a feverish patriotism and nationalism, much more than most countries.
They are needy of champions because the vast majority of people there live in squalor and poverty.
They need something to give them hope, like a soccer team or a surfing champion.
You never hear Kelly Slater claiming how great the USA is in all his wins. Probably because 99% of Americans could care less about professional surfing.
But Brazilian nationalism translates into aggressive surfing in the water.
If winning a world title means the average Brazzo surfer will chill out a little bit in the lineup, I'm all for it.

Yeah, I was going for Germany all the way in the WC, but when I saw those people from Brazil react to the loss, I felt really bad. I mean, it was like 100,000 grown men, women, children, sobbing, like the world just ended. Throw em a bone man. If it means that much to them for surfing too, sh**, I hope somebody wins it there.

It's like the Mexican nationalism. They are prideful people. They put soccer on a pedestal Because a lot of their reality is pretty harsh. Maybe someday Mexico will win the WC, but I doubt it. At least Brazil has won 5 WCs. Thats really what matters to them.

Why do we need a bunch of Brazzos all puffed up beating their chests all over the world. We already have all us Floridians. We know this is the cultural dead end of the universe, and the dumping ground of society, with gun toting seniors running amok in Depends, in a state that gets zero to crap surf on the regs, so excuse me if I don't want to hear a bunch of Portuguese speaking douche canoes talking shi$ when its up to us Florida surfers to hold the standard on shi$ talking, yea we got Kelly and CJ and Damien and Cory and Peter Media and Geiselman bros and Cocoa Pier and Wayne the Insane so I don't wanna hear no crap aboot how the Brazilian national psyce needs this guy to bring home OUR world title.
