I think it was the round after that, a goofy footer, white jersey. The website is jacked, so when I got back from lunch, it wasn't showing the actual heat. It was stuck on old round names and scores but the live video was streaming with no sound. So anyway, some goofy footer in a white jersey just got so deep, got swallowed in the foam ball, the wave spits and like three seconds later the dudes just shoots out with his hands up. Home boy wasn't just deep, he was lost in there deep.... And he came out at almost a straight angle to the beach. On a technical level, that is the best barrel I have seen on tour in a few years, no doubt. Everyone thought he was done for, then like a boss, he just comes flying out. Wicked.

I would say it's picked up about 3-5 feet in height in the last hour. The perfect, set from heaven just rolled through and every single pro in the heat backed out of there at the last second. That set was border line even paddle-able. Getting freaking huge out there. They didn't want a piece of that. All three were perfect spitting barrels.

I don't care if the announcers or judges think medina could of gotten deeper, that stand up hands on the roof barrel was freaking pretty

Yeah, but that is why people hate on the young man. He throws that hands up claim on an air reverse in waist high beach break. Pretty wave, great surfer, but if you are going to hot dog, at least get deep up in that thing and then hot dog it. From the front view, he wasn't even behind the curtain. Just nit picking, but with so many insane waves today and insane rides, he has some work to do.

From a competitive stand point I agree. I don't really care about scores though. That wave was incredibly smooth and that was a big barrel. Pretty

medinas heat been super slow like 2 set waves came in the entire heat.ur limited on what u can do when the waves don't cooperate.everyone was surfing the shorebreak style waves.i wanted to see medina do an ai airdrop get spat out and do the Mossberg claim.he can do it,just need the right waves.everyone can hate on medina, but hes still the dude that's on tour surfing all these great waves while everyone sits at home and types shyt onto the keyboard to discredit the kid.i like the groms more than the older guys, parko had his shine already getting tired of seeing him do the same old shyt.medinas gonna pull into a 12ft closeout, get spat out and land a backflip, and everyones still gonna hate

Haha, I am with you. I have no problem with the kid, but the #1 complaint about he and the other brazi's are about the emotions and the claiming. Must just be a cultural thing. And regardless of who likes him and who doesn't, he won his heat. But all that said, yeah we are all arm chair quarterbacking right now, but when you are one of the top 35 pro surfers on earth, and you are competing for money, at a place like that with a wave like that, and every heat has like 10 amazing barrels and waves, everyone will be judged, but the actual judges and the viewers alike. That is the fun of it. If not, no body would watch.

His wave that we are talking about was amazing, but out of the 20 best waves today, I would say that would fall in the 18-20 range, just because he wasn't in a critical part of the wave. A giant tube is a giant tube, but Kelly, Mick, Joel, Buchan, they have all had insane waves, deep as deep can get.... They each got individually betters wave today than anyone on this sight may ever get. Doesn't mean we can't compare perfection to perfection.

The local guy, Puhetini, nailed a few waves & got some good scores. But when Parko got a decent wave, he gets a 9.0 & "the local boy" as the announcers keep calling the grown man from Tahiti (cringeworthy & brutal) is fading into second.

White sport = white champs. This guy Puhetini deserves better than this provincial crap from the corporate-sponsored--must-win-for-corp-money-surfers.

Bought & paid for, kidz, bought & paid for.

I generally don't have too high of an opinion towards pro surfers, I think they're spoiled divas. But they get my utmost respect whenever I watch them charge these conditions

agreed, I like to consider this type of surfing as them earning their paychecks, throwing yourself over one of those ledges takes some balls, a lot of skill too, but mostly balls

hodges barrel was the sickest of the day hands down. wasn't the prettiest but by far the most critical barrel
