The last thing one should do if using a narrow stance is surf from right back on the tail and move 'everything' back there... a recipe for kooky flapping.

Narrow stances are all about balance, and for balance get a board which rides from the middle, end of.

Sorry Roy, I think Yankee's right on this one.

The big difference here is that when someone says "narrow stance", you're probably interpreting this as two feet touching and facing forward similar to your own riding style. My interpretation of narrow stance is having a fairly standard shortboard stance with your feet placed 6-8 inches closer together.

I surf mainly HP shortboards, top to bottom, driving off my back foot which is firmly planted atop my fin setup. This works extremely well for me.

I'll go out on a limb and assert that I rarely do any "kooky flapping"... although I admit that I'm not cool enough to wear a sick orange suit and cue-ball white Gath.

I know where you're coming from, Roy... But I don't that that's what the OP is trying to get help with.

BTW... Did you happen to see the article in the latest Surfer Magazine on GPS watches and how they're, "going to change the way we surf"??? Weren't you doing something like that... like... 10 years ago?
