So I gotta decent sized crack on the rail of my board the other day. As soon as I noticed it I went in, sucked out as much water as I could, threw some suncure on it, and paddled back out.. (Chest high glassy barrels at Seaside Park. I had no choice!!!). But now I think my board is getting waterlogged. The ding repair is discolored underneath and that rail is kinda spongey. I was planning on taking it to a shop to get it professionally repaired anyway, but can something like that be fixed?? If so how much do you think something like that would cost??? Any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks
Cut out the soft areas (not foam) and damage, dry it out, fix it with new cloth. Ton of threads about this on here I think. My answer is general, every ding is special.......so special.
if the foam has water in it you will need to remove damaged foam and either re fill it with new foam or resin with filler. than proceede as normal. anything is fixable, if anyone charges you more than $40.00 they are ripping you off.
Thanks for the reply man.. I don't wanna do it myself, I'm nervous about sqrewing it up. Is it important that I do this quickly. I was planning on taking it to a shop within the next week or so to get it professionally done. Is time of the essence here, or can it wait??
I don't know man. Its a 700$ board. I'd feel kinda wierd about attacking it with a razor blade without knowing what I'm doing, you know what I mean? Thanks bro. That makes me feel a lot better. I've really been stressin' this. It's a CI motorboat, and it's a freakin' awesome board. I thought I ruined it. So do you think it's okay for me to wait a week before I take it in?? Or is it important to get it done ASAP??
No doubt, if your not compfortable, don't do it. Just make sure some one else doesn't mess it up either. I trust my own repairs the most (I'm picky). I'm curious about the foam though. I know different foams suck water differently. I only have removed foam that was busted up. I'll carefully use a hair dryer and thoroughly check for dryness before filling/coating.Thats just how I do it.
either bring it to a shop or try and do it yourself. If you dont fix it, it will only get worse. Sand the spots that are soft to make the glass weak. Once its soft cut the spot where it is soft with a razor and remove the glass. Then let the board dry out for a couple days. After that get some resin either poly or epoxy, whatever the board is, make sure if you use poly that your board is poly because if its epoxy the poly resin will melt the epoxy foam and then your board will be in trouble. Once youve gotten the resin, get micro balloons to make a light weight filler for ur board. Mix them to a tooth paste consistency, then fill the whole. One the resin is fully cured sand it down and glass the spot. Then hot coat it. Sand the glass down flat and then use a gloss coat and sand that with fine sand paper and depending on wether or not your board is glossed you can choose to polish it. Good luck with it
you've got a delam. it probably won't matter if you wait to get it repaired because they usually wait for everything to dry anyway. unless you really know what you're doing i would take it to get professionally repaired because replacing the foam could be tricky, and you want it done right.
