Hey guys. For years I drove around with my old beat up longboard on my roof racks unprotected without thinking twice about it. I finally just bought my first brand-new board (9'2 Matador East!) and out of paranoia I also bought a sock for it. Is it safe to have the board on the roof with the sock on driving at 65 mph? Or will the sock blow open and rip away? Thanks in advance.

Sock should be just fine as far as blowing off. However a sock will not stop a rock that kicked up at 65 mph from dinging the hell out of that nice new stick. Do your self a favor and get a decent DaKine or similar style board bag not a sock. Sock's are good for very short/low speed trips on the roof or walking/biking.

Socks don't protect your board that much get a day bag with good padding.

It will be safe, and better than nothing. But as others have advised, getting a padded (white or reflective) day bag is a good choice.

    Go with a Day bag.+2

Also make sure the sock is cinched tight at the opening if you go fins first. My buddy had one rip open at high speed. Didn't fly off, but ruined the sock.

if the sock is cinched closed, it should be fine. i've used socks for 20+ years w/ no problems...down to the outer banks & back, up north on the gsp, in my coffin bag on airplanes...a daybag would provide more protection, but their bulk is impractical for my method of day-to-day board storage.

My Julie Designs sock was sweet for about 2 weeks before it caked with wax in the summer and became cardboardish. I think its one of those overkill items, like the ankle leash for Churchills. If they were smart over there at JD, they'd create the sock for snowboards. Suck up all that water that rusts an edge. But then again, I dont do so much frivilous spending these days besides diapers, so maybe they already made that available.

Thanks for the replies. I know its not optimum protection, but it's all I have right now. ( I feel like I've said this to a girlfriend once.)
