OK fellows. I am finishing up my plans. I have dialed in my tickets from LA but buying East Coast to LA separate.

I have not traveled East to West with boards in years and looked at some of the old threadz.

Any suggestions on airlines to LA. Norfolk, Charlotte, or Dulles?

    thx

Jet blue charges $50 each way; renting will be way more, so will buying one, especially if you cannot sell it properly. just opinion, trev.
I hope you have fun down there.

yea they charge 50 bux each way in addition to a $50 checked bag fee because they stopped giving you a free checked bag as of june, so in reality 100 bux each way. For $200 im pretty sure i could find a deal on a rental or a cheapo board that i can make my money back on. idk ill have to make that call as it gets closer and see what the forcast is. no sense in paying 200 bux to bring a board down if im only surfing it 2 or 3 times a week cause its flat.

    best way to do it:

buy some of those pool toy tubes, cut them down the middle use that for your rails. then use the remainder to make a "skeleton ribcage" over the decks of your boards. Stuff the bag to the brim with either bubble rap or packing peanuts, i recommend the first because otherwise ull be picking foam out of your board bag for the next 5 years.

Talk with Bobby at Mar Azul surf shop. He may be a good starting point, anyway.

I know a bunch of you have had great experiences w mar azul but i know a couple or more people who would say differently. He has a reputation of sky high charges for ding repairs if the board is damaged in the slightest. So carefully inspect and maybe even take pics before the board leaves his property. The clowns who set up shop at marias and sandy beach have a sh!+ selection. Green room has boards but not a whole lot i believe they have all their boards available on the website. pretty good guy too. Mar azul and green room are about the same in price weekly $150.00.
Will be down there w the largest group of NON surfers 10th -24th. Will be throwin a party nearly every night. Been going down for 15 years. Good non surf day trips are Camuy, san sebastian cascades but go early and mayaguez zoo.

Back to the boards if your staying up north someone here posted a link to a shop called secret spot. You Might be interested in. Over by jobos (great mid week beach) there is a bunch of places that have rentals.

I typically use the foam pipe insulation which is basically the same thing (probably cheaper to get pool tubes from Wallyworld or something. Also, use the fat bubble wrap versus the little bubbles. Never traveled with 3 boards before so I will have to see how it goes with the coffin bag I have.

IDK who you are getting this info from but Bobby has always been a stand up guy and I've stayed there 4 times. He let me borrow a board for free a couple times. I usually bring my own but I have a hard time believing he would try to screw anybody over, he's a good dude.

I second that, he is a good dude for sure. I snapped one of his longboard fiberglass rentals which was in decent shape and he charged me 275 bucks. On another trip I dinged one of his fishes in a couple of places and he asked for 20 bucks. I thought he was more than fair. Another time I stayed at his place and he gave us free rentals for a whole week. So I can't seem him trying to screw anyone.
