Gonna be around tamarindo area June 23-30. Surfline has a pretty large forecast. Just wondering what size boards someone would travel with. I'm bringing a 5'8" hypto and was considering bringing a 6'2" proton.
If you have a bag that can take two boards I'd carry em both. Haven't seen the forecast but if it's going to be double overhead big I'd definitely carry the 6'2. If it's gonna be under that the whole time you could get away with the 5'8. If you have a step-up you might as well use it? It won't get much action around here.
yeah, I brought boards once, spent $300 on board fees and $100 getting them both fixes thanks to the baggage monkeys. Rent.
If you're going to bring a board, I would bring your "go-to" board for average surf for your abilities and then bring a step-up board for bigger days, maybe something with a little more volume and easier to paddle. I hate board fees too but I love having my own sticks. With that said, I'm sure you could find some boards to rent that you would be more than happy with. I'm going to Nica next month and I'm bringing 2 boards which are very close in size and volume, I'm just taking two to have a backup board. Both of mine work well in below and above head high and one is a slightly longer quad if I want to change it up a little. I'll be traveling all around too and going to pretty remote places that most likely wouldn't have much of a selection if any for renting a board. Good Luck and be safe. Let us know how it goes.
