Love this addition. I also like to pull it out in the under 40 crowd and leave everyone wondering and confused (mixed with a little irritation).

I love the feel of a singlefin. When I first started riding my first one, it was almost like learning to surf all over again.

just got a 6'3" ci black beauty as my step up board, i'm a smaller guy, 5'8" and 145lbs, i've been riding a 5'10" flyer for a year, and definitely felt like i needed a bigger board for when its overhead, so hopefully it will soon so i can give it a go!

    boards i love:
wynn diamondtail quadtri 6'3" (great NJ board for waist+ waves, works better as a quad)
plusone squash 6'2" tri (great shorebreak board for powerful waves up to head+2)
bushman surftech pintail 6'10" (epic. if i was a bumb in hawaii with 1 board, this is it)

    somewhere in between
bushman 6'4" squash (good all around board, feels like a flyer with more rocker)
channel islands 6'3" squash (rode well but thin/weak broke it my 4th day in hawaii, this is why i bought the flyerII oops)

    boards i hated:
bushman 6'6" pintail (could not turn! felt like a skateboard with randall trucks)
channel islands surftech flyerII 6'3" (worst board i ever bought, way too narrow, too much rocker, dont know what i was thinking)

that thing looks sick, almost exactly what i had in mind (just no tint lol i know its wynn's thing). want to trade for a diamond tail quad for a day :) i like the rocker too, good call on that. probably a great board if its dumpy and tiny. what are the dimensions you got? any recommendations on changing it? thanks 5'10" 175 lb

i saw a guy riding a surf prescriptions i think single, looked like a lot of fun. what does it paddle like? how does it surf differently or change your surfing? anyway to compare it?

i have a 6'10" bushman pintail semi gun surftech, unreal how well that thing works, and its totally indestructible. i hated all the other surftechs i rode except for that one, its saved my ass a cpl times

Here is a picture of the Wynn shape that I have (not your typical rounded or even pintail single). You can't really tell from the pic, but the boards thickness is off-center towards the nose making it catch really well and allowing you to move way up without pearling. It is hard to compare the way it surfs but I tend to move on the board during better days, almost like a long board, moving up to get speed and shifting back through the turns. As far as turns, it is more carving the face than big cutbacks, really fluid.

My other single-fin is truly retro, a freak board that is about 3 inches thick, but shaped more like the Channel Island singles (The MSF). Although the rails are thick as hell and it gets totally destroyed in chop, the maneuvers are more familiar as far as cutbacks and foot placement.

That Wynn single is exactly what I want. Not only do I love the shape, but that resin tint is incredible. I have an old 70's plastic fantastic that is similar in shape. Thin and narrow in the tail and fat and chunky up front. Unfortunately it's so delaminated and beat up it's unridable. I hope to make it a wall hanger and order that single fin from Brian.

Depends. I'm 5'9" 170. If the board was for the summer and fall I would have gotten 5'10". But I really wanted something I could use in the winter as well, so throw the 4/3 and 5/4 into the mix and I had to go up to 6'0". Then in order to get the extra nose rocker he had to add an extra inch so it was up to 6'1". Which is a bit of an oversized fish for my weight. However, aside from losing some duck diving ability the board rides like a dream. It handles steep drops better than any fish I've ever ridden. And you are exactly right that it is the perfect board for those small clean days where it's dumping pretty fast. I'm often suprised by some of the waves I can get into with it.
