nice ride,,how ya gonna carry the board in that? don't laugh no joke me and my brother was coming back from folly after a hurricane swell pulled up to a stoplight and this old dude(older than me) was in a bright shiny little bmw type convertible sports car and had a 9ft longboard in the passenger floorboard layed back on the seat and sticking about 4-5 feet out the back/top car.... local shaper josh hoke seems like a cool guy, some nice work

Craigslist in MA/RI/NH is pretty thin. I've been looking for 9'6" longboard and there's not much out there.

    Anyone ridden a Hanlon board?

Yup heard of Hoke. My good surf bud has the same last name; told him he'll need to get one for his kid when he can surf. i've got a hard rack for my Korean cruiser for those longer trips +1hr, but also soft racks when i'm not living on Folly during the summer. cant keep a rack on the top cuz of the noise it produces, the jag and the korean one i got now have sunroofs which are a must for me. Seen some Gary Wilson boards - myrtle beach guy- even tho i have a Perfection Board (also myrtle) in hand, but i'll let CL decide when the time's right. it's the Miatas with the longboards that crack me up tho

St. Croix Triumph Series rod and a Quantum Boca PT 40. I have never paid this much for a rod and reel set up either, but it is nice!!!!!! I do have two of the Quantum Iron PT 40 and they are also very nice reels. They were about $110 each, but I slapped them on a $50 Penn rod.

Everybody misses surf (even unemployed folk). Only think you can do is make the most of it when you can. I will admit that I tend to buy more surf stuff in the winter cuz I can't get out except on weekends. For some crazy reason buying surf gear helps soften the blow of not surfing!

    Is that a late 90's XJ 12?

Some years back I was interested in picking one up for the wife. Really nice ride, but I'm sure you're aware of the issues with this car. Didn't matter to me, because i had a well-paying job and I do most of my own repairs. Compared the Jag to other rides, and the wife was adamant about going with the BMW 740i which has been a great car.

And yes, you can surf out of it. Hell, I surfed out of a 1988 Carrera for 2 years. Not a great idea, but I didn't have anything else. Pulling up in a Bimmer or Porsche either gets you a weird stare or a thumbs up and a smile.

You and I are like minding. Instead of shredding the waves I shred my pockets and spend it on gear. Makes me feel better.

It's actually an '03 but that model design I believe started in the late 90s, before then they were a lot boxier. Transmission issues are the big thing with those, so yeah i've done the research. they are just so smooth of a ride and i know with the extra cash i'll pocket with the current car - i can make up with all the car issues. Not great with a motor, but i've grown up as a DIY guy and have been into cars since i was a kid

Try building a board... makes the dollars go a lot further, is more satisfying when it's over, and keeps your head in the game even when your body's not in the water. I call it, "an extension of my surfing life."

Gotta spend those bonuses right away. It's uncanny the way it often happens. Soon after I get a bonus, one of the cars needs repair, the range, washer or dryer break down, or there's a vet bill to pay. But couple bonuses went for a longboard and a new banjo. Next one will be for a .45 ACP handgun...Well, maybe not. Better start saving up for daughter's wedding.

That's not a bad idea at all. I'm fairly crafty and could probably handle it. Gotta perfect my ding repair first, but I'm getting more and more comfortable.

i'm like 6'4 Frost, so a 5'9 is too small for me. did some a great board in NC, a 5'11 lost stealth 5 fin, that i was thinking of getting when taking a look at an Allison LB. Anyways, i locked in on a 9' Gary Wilson LB. no pressure dings, but a small 1.5 inch tail had too much suncure on it which is a real easy fix to get smoothed out. also, the ol man is throwing in a beater board, a 6'6 Realm. never heard of realm but probably will notice it more when i do. waves are gonna be chest hi clean on sat morning, hi tide at 10am so i'm hoping to try it out then. on the shorty front, i messaged a guy in dirty myrtle about a 6'2 board but i dunno if i'll get a response. i'm sure i'll find one by next year

gw.jpg gw2.jpg gw3.jpg now that i got a solid LB in the quiver, i'll have to learn more about the placement of the fin. believe it's a 7" fin. the guy i'm buying from used to live in Hawaii but lives now in chucktown. he said his knees are giving out hence to selling it, but i'm gonna let him know that he can use the board whenever his knees feel better given my place is on the beach and i keep the boards outside under the palms. great guy, real glad i messaged him before making the trek to NC

If you're crafty and have a basic grasp of ding repair I think lot of ding repair is harder than the basic process of shaping and glassing a board.

I'm keeping stoked shaping an EPS mini simmons for next spring (that i cant even glass right now because its too cold to work with epoxy) and restoring an old 80s Jon Ashton thruster that i picked up on CL for $50.

Talked to a 75 yr old dude at Folly yesterday who had both knees replaced and still surfs. Hope I'm that lucky.
