As a general rule I am against reading, and it should be discouraged at all costs. But.... Christmas is coming and I am spending a week with the in-laws. The best way to avoid the in-laws is to bring a book. For some reason it isn't considered unsocial and gets me out of talks about Obama Care for the 200th time. With that said, any good suggestions for a book? I was thinking Thai Stik and Tapping the Source.

Thanks for reading the worst thread/post ever.

man, you need to be engaging those inlaws, putting credits in that love bank for you with the wife. NTL, Into the Wild, Blue Mind, Let my people go Surfing. In that order.

"man, you need to be engaging those inlaws"

12 years of it, can't do it anymore. Just waiting for them to die at this point. The book suggestion from Vince is great "how to have an affair and not get caught" now that would be funny as hell to read in front of them all.

Sociopaths in Love... Leave it out; let the in-laws peruse it... they probably will leave you alone for a long time. It makes Pahuliniuk look tame.

The Big Book of Horrible Things contains the deaths and failures of Greeks in it too! Pretty much, every culture as well. If there is one thing they need to control after the last ethnic cleansing in Asia Minor (about 80 years ago), it is their birthrate. Perhaps you can enlighten them, although it likely took place in their lifetime! That can make things nice and awkward, yet justifiable, and educational. Changes the subject too...

Are they anti Obama-Care? Aren't the Greeks notorious for not paying taxes? That's a problem with demographic and more in the United States!

The key is not a good book and probably not a book that has them trying to turn your wife against you. You need to think of the subject that is of such little interest to them that they won't even want to engage you in discussion.

SJKC, great advice in theory but here is the deal - my FIL and MIL are way far right, my SIL is way far left. My wife and I are stuck in the middle just wanting to eat and drink. Both my FIL and SIL will bring crap up to anger the other with the horrible outcome obvious. My FIL will even do a x-mas blessing asking god to save Obama (yeah good times).

So, it looks like Big Book of Horrible Things and Tapping the Source so far. Both read out loud.

Hey fungus, you're not alone. I get bombarded by my big wig oil exec Uncle, every f**king year. I rarely drink, but I'm getting hammered and crass this year.

'the life of pi' is a good read... I would also suggest the Bible, in search of capt zero, making mavericks, walking on water, and caught inside.... just to list a few... also a quick search on the web- there are many surfing books out there now too

Sounds like you need audio books and a good set of noise canceling headphones
