So after dreaming about it for 20+ years, and after never actually moving to a beach town I purchased a beach place. During the last few months it has been fully renovated and now is very comfortable and clean etc. Will not rent. Occasionally, I pretend I'm now a local and I find that I don't care about that and wonder why I ever thought I would.
One strange side effect: I wait for better swell and not paddle out every time there is a surfable bump. Still stoked but more selective I guess.
And oh, the main decorative feature is hanging my boards on the wall of the living room.

    congrats!

Got my place almost 6 years ago and plan on "retiring" there in aboot 2 years. I never rent to anybody either. I like it being my family's get away. I'll let friends stay there on occasion.
I love surfboards as functional art!

I don't chase down every little bump either, I tend to be a little selective. Not a bad thing, especially when you're not as young as you once were.

bought a second place to rent - it will pay for both mortgages and fees and then some - maybe retirement will come sooner

Congrats on your place! In my town (Satellite Beach Fl) if you don't actually live here, most will not consider you a local. Localism sucks but it's very much alive here anyway.

Year and a half later and that’s all you got? That you bought another place.
Jeez dude, tell us how the past years been. You are living the dream for many of us and any info would be cool.

I remember once I got into it with some old grey pony tailed tattooed burly unknown dick at Juno Pier (he tried to fade me) who had no sense of etiquette, and couldn't surf to get out of his own way. He said to me all cocky that he lives at the condo he just bought across the street and was therefore a local. I told him congratulations on his purchase, but just because he came down from up north and bought a shiny new condo doesn't give him any rights, stay out of my way, and shuffle off. There was a few snickers from the peanut gallery, He looked at me all butt hurt, then went away. I haven't seen him lately.

If it’s anything like my life it goes like this.

Wake up, get laid, get high, put trunks on, get board, pack in car, drive to beach, surf, come home and work for 8hrs, check wind / swell, go surf again if conditions warrant a double header. If so, get high, surf again and come home for a delicious dinner made by my beautiful wife. Weekends I extend my surf sessions to 3-4hrs or until I get lats and tricep AIDS.
