So I am hearing all this talk about football, hockey, soccer, etc.... and repeated hits to the head causing in the long-term brain damage. Even the smallest of hits with enough repetition causes damage.

So I was wondering, what does surfing do to us? I am not talking about getting hit in the head with the board, I am talking about repeated shots to the head from waves breaking on us while paddling out or from hitting the water hard if/when you fall. As they say, even the small shots to the head over and over again is bad.

No, I am not saying I am quitting, etc..... far from it, was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it or ever read anything about it?

Your post above is "a priori" evidence that you have been hit in the head more than enough to turn you into a moron, maybe even a vegetable.......
Wear a helmet when you go out surfing. And/or complain to the WSL.
Otherwise, take up extreme knitting. Just don't drool over your work....

With you being 64 years old (basically worthless, bet u can't even get it up anymore) you would be a perfect test subject. Go kill yourself and donate what is left of your "brain" to science. Or maybe you can continue to live and contine to bore us with lies about making money off day trading.

I've hit the face on big waves before and definitely had concussion-like symptoms. A day would go by and I'd have sensitivity to light and head-aches, etc... If you're going fast enough and slam into the wave it's the same as taking a hit in football, even worse since you're unprotected. I've probably had a few undiagnosed concussions just from screwing up a turn or dropping in head-first. Not fun.

Have you ever had a concussion? Do you have any idea what concussion like symptoms feel like? Moron.

A doctor told me years ago that if I got any more concussions I could face permanent damage. I surf all the time, crash my mountain bike all the time, hit trees and case booters snowboarding in the winter. Guess what I'm fine, waves don't do ****

Actually you aren't fine u r dumb, if you can read you would know that it doesn't take a concussion but small repeated blows r even worse. Surprised fry cooks like yourself actually have good enough insurance to visit the doctor.

    Tell that to Owen Wright...
Yes you can get concussions surfing, from getting slapped by a wave hard or smacking your head on the water. At high speeds water isn't really soft anymore.
I've had them as have many people I know.

If you've surfed for any length of time you've probably gotten your bell rung a few times.

Sometimes it is even possible to get hit in the head by your own board. That hurts even more than water. Then there is head first sand reconne. I'm prolly 2 inches shorter than when I first started surfing.

Yes sand reconne. I kooked it out one time forgetting where the sand bar was and duckdived head first into it. That didn't tickle.
