So I broke my nose surfing October 30th. Doc said four weeks out of the water. Anyone else break their nose and how long did you wait before surfing again?
I broke my nose 3 or 4 years ago. I never went to the doctor and surfed the next day. lol. Just curiouswhy did he say 4 weeks? Mine was sore as hell for at least 2 weeks so maybe it would hurt terribly if it was hit again before being fully healed. I was fine but maybe just lucky.
He said I could reinjure the nose. Didn't need to be set. Four stitches on nose but wound seems to be healed. Basically, it's a given that I wipeout and I'm worried that a simple wipeout could result in a rebreak...
Zippy with all do respect If you had broken your nose and never went to the doctor your ish would be all messed up looking like mine.. I have broken my nose a few times and it sucks! You should wait the proper time but more like 2-3 weeks.. If you hit it again say goodbye to ever having a sense of smell or being able to breath properly like a real athlete. Just trust me on this one.. boxing for a few year along with capoiera and mui tai in monmouth county. Just take care of it get yourself a netty pot (the sports squeez bottle looking one) and do that 2-3 times a day.... trust me and make sure you warm that bad boy up a little before you use it itll really take some of the pain away
Hmmm, broke my nose twice in my lifetime once hit with a baseball playing catcher without a mask and once with a surfboard. First break deviated my septum on the left side and knocked my nose slightly crooked, no doctor, lots of discomfort, swelling for weeks (1975 poor parents with no health insurance). This last break the board popped right up and hit me flat in the face, heard my nose break which anyone who has broken their nose would understand, crunch. Not much blood since the water was in the 30's and that kept the swelling down. Painful for several weeks and no noticable damage but a distinct crackle if you tried to move it and discomfort. Pretty sure I broke my nose both times.
Lol, I do remember seeing a friend get hit in the nose in a fight and it was literally flat sideways on his face! He had to go through a painfull resetting and had a splint of some type taped to his face for a month. Other than the swelling and 2 slightly black eyes mine was and is not noticable unless you look at me straight on, then you can see the bridge leans to the side, but not flattened.
Ha Ha I am! Only one side of my nose works so I need to use every opening I have to get oxygen. I never considered myself an athlete, I'm a surfer first, if someone looks at me and thinks I'm athletic that's nice but I don't care either way. Mitchell I did visit your spot the other morning and you were already gone. Jason paddled out for 15 minutes and called it quits, I waited all day and then the wind knocked it so far down it was all over.
