Okay, so. since the emmy award winning movie Point Break had guns, I figured they went with surfing. Do any of you fellers own an AR and have any of you fellers built an AR? I am trying to decide, buy already complete or build? Feel free to chime in.

I have 3. I bought them all from er, connections I have. Seriously, define build. Do you mean from a kit or customize existing.

Also, I go to a website called Brownells. At least I think it is called that. They have what you need to get started if you build.

I have a few. some are the cheapies and others have more invested in them.

depends on what you want out of it.
something fun to shoot? just buy at $500-$800 gun
    use slickguns.com

by "building" - it could be that you buy a separate upper and lower and "build it" (put the two pieces together and push the pins through. OR, you could source every little part individually and put it together.
    either way, I recommend slickguns.com

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific, build piece by piece. Watched a video last night and the dude was giving tips on how to build a pretty decent AR for pretty cheap. He was going to different sites for parts and catching deals.

Thanks Sandbar, I'll check that site out. Classic Firearms has a couple AR's for around $500 that actually got pretty good reviews (for a cheaper AR)

Oh yeah, just something fun to shoot. I won't be going out every day putting 500 through it, just once a month or something, maybe more.

I had a 7'10 pintail, but traded it over the summer for a longboard

It was built complete with glassed in fins

It was pretty fast in steep and hollow surf

Well I would say build because then you can customize the trucks and wheels with the deck. Most completes come with sub-par wheels and trucks.....................................

On the subject of ARs I have no idea.

shizzzz.... looks like slick guns domain has changed...its actually
    https://gun.deals/today

it basically takes all of the good gun deals and puts them in a listing.
    its addicting.

many times you can buy a nice upper and a cheaper lower and come out with a superior gun than buying an expensive whole gun...most of the performance in an ar-15 is in an upper.
    don't buy a poly lower

first upgrade to any ar-15 is the trigger. geissele triggers are a huge upgrade to most stock triggers
