And I seriously doubt this stuff will ever get fully funded in this budgetary and political climate. In fact, I predict within the next 4 year there is going to be a massive cutting of both government programs and salaries.
San Diego BayKeeper Hey Zach, I recommend talking to folks at BayKeeper. Their number is (619) 758-7743. They were involved in a lawsuit about the Combined Sewer Overflows, Donna Frye is a big supporter, and they are politically connected. They may be able to help you get in touch with the Terminator....uh, Governor. Plus, the work they do on behalf of clean water is huge.
What!!!!! Are you kidding me! Wow its not even liquid sewage it's the solids !!! Even worse ! I use to live in Point Loma a few miles from the plant i know there whole set up it goes about 2 miles off the coast underwater where it is then let out in a Y pipe format. This is nuts! I really can not believe they are aloud to pump "Sludge" out into the ocean this is aggravating big time! Were not just talking household sewage this is on bigger scale CITY waste big company's factory's all of that "****" now in our water! This is very upsetting news!
Yeah, a few years ago, they added 2.5 miles to the pipe, so its now about 4 miles long and goes 320 feet deep. Its still disgusting and wrong. On a stranger similar note, I read that over all the snows this winter, the city of Baltimore was disposing of everything that they snowplowed up right into the harbor downtown. They just scraped all teh sludge and sh** off the city streets and depoisted it right into the inner harbor. I saw photos of it... That can't be good for whatever life was in that already gross water... I guess we all have our own problems locally. The chesapeake bay has always had issues... Its a damn shame everywhere this happens... I did just read a cool article from a diver who dives down and checks out the sweage pipe all the time... Freaky story. I woulda crapped my wetsuit being 100 feet deep swimming around a gigantic sewage disposal pipe. Apparently there is all kinds of cool sea life growing on the sides of the thing. There are white buoys marking the line the whole way out to sea... If I wasn't deathyl afraid of crepy sh** in really deep water, I would go check it out... There are old submarines and all kinds of stuff at the bottom of point loma... I saw really cool map online of all underwater diving obstructions... Old ships, broken submarines... all still chilling on the bottom... crepy creepy creepy...
