The last half dozen times I have been out my eyes are so bad that it makes it hard to keep going. I notice some burning after about an hour and after two hours+ it is too much. Talked to a friend (eye doc) and she said stay out of the water or wear goggles. Did not care for either option. I have never had this bother me before...wondering if the water has a bloom of something??? Been in the water on both sides of Florida in various locales with same result. Any one else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to deal with it?
Satellite beach,Cocoa pier,Sebastian Inlet,Sand Key Park,Anna Maria Island and a couple others...Florida.
My arm pits were on fire after Wednesday night session at Sunset / T.I. Beach, red and everything, eyes burned a little too. Not much of a problem on the E. side and I hit all the same spots. I dunno what you use for sunscreen but that also could be part of the problem. I switched to using the spf55 Coppertone Sport Stick on my face and spf30 lotion for the body. Never runs into my eyes anymore, but before I would be blinded out there for half the session.
Either something in the water or maybe you need an eye exam to see what's up. My pits are still kinda burning from Wednesday night, so you may be onto something here.
Dude, I never really have any problems when I'm out in the water, but 80% of the time, post-surf, my eyes burn like a MOVE house in West Philly. Thought it must be the sun, but it happens on cloudy, cold days as well. It's always somthing anymore. My eyes, my ears are trucked, and they still get trucked even though I now wear earplugs. WEAR EARPLUGS, winter surf kids. You'll thank me later. Ahhh, I surfer enough injustices to start wearing goggles. Nah, mean? Man, Wednesday was good and today was twitchen too. 3-4', soft barrels peeling down the beach. It's friggin Friday and no one was around - on the beach or in the water. Saw a small shark, to boot. You Florida guys would be proud, I didn't care. I noticed some swell predictin' sites undercalled today. I wonder if that was the reason for the lack of crowds? I hope not.
Corexit coming around from da guff. start getting concerned when you start vomiting blood and your teeth fall out.
Ever try duck diving a heavy wave or going over the falls/eating schitt with goggles on? Now you're wearing a cool necklace.
Love the MOVE reference. I was actually in Philly that day visiting relatives in Overbrook. I was at Moronies Water Ice stand at 63rd and Race about 6 blocks away. I FELT the bomb go off. back on topic, hate to sound paranoid but ever since Sandy, every time I surf my eyes burn. The damage was minimal in Sea Isle. They had to fix up JFK but I don;t think too much stuff emptied into the ocean down here. The sewage levels we all tracked after the storm were never really a factor. Could it be stuff still coming up and around from the gulf spill in FLA???? Chich, is that what you meant?
A friend of mine lives in Satellite, they've been known to get red tides which can cause skin, eye and respiratory irritation.
"Surfer's Eye"... permanent redness due to overexposure to sun and wind (plus whatever's in the water). Every time you get that post-sesh burn, it's getting progressively worse. Only us haole's get it. White man's burden, Loyd... white man's burden.
Back in the pizza delivery days I had several customers call to report "the stoned delivery driver" but my boss knew I had been surfing all day. Also hated it when I had to set the za down and wooosh here comes the nose flush all over the box. Oops, hope they didn't see that.
Come on man, you were delivering pizza. Maybe you'd been surfing all day, too, but the two aren't mutually exclusive! I've delivered pizza. I know the way the job goes. Though pizza gave me a real eye burn - I was out on delvieries late night, boxes started to shift a bit out of the warming bag so i pushed them back in. Unbeknownst to me, I'd gotten some buffalo sauce that had leaked outside the styrofoam box a bit onto my finger, so when I rubbed my eyes a minute later......now that's some eye burn.
I've never even heard of this before. Thanks LBCrew, I guess - even though they wield all the political power and win all of the state's lotteries, not to mention being dangerous behind the wheel - North Jersey folks can actually be useful here and there. Oh but wait, you got South Jersey blood running through your veins........Oh, so, actually you North Jersey guys are still useless........ I'm just kidding people, calm down. Just don't steal my groceries, while I get change for the latest issue of Rhode Island Sluts Yeah man, my right eye is now red in the corner area almost constantly. Plus, I've got "floaties" in my vision more than just the occasional time(which happens with age). Aww man, kids, don't get old. Live fast and die young....... So, now my eyes are trucked to go along with my ears............... Hey Trev, how's you legal entaglements going? And thanks Oipaul for not throwing an insult my way this time. I'm very vulnerable today. Goose and NewEnglandFlatness you guys have a good day. Pizza and the drivers taht make it happen are unsung heroes of this world. I did it for a year and I loved it because at nights I'd probably be just driving around drinking and puffing anyways........It was a perfect fit. Craziest group of people, in a work setting, I have ever been around. You could have made a sit com aboot that place.
I always hated when bastard parents would send their little kid to the door with an exact change check. I'd laugh my azz off when they'd flip the pizza box sideways and tuck it under their arm like a book. Enjoy your xtra cheese pizza soup biotches
me too brother. My parents live on the Mobil Bay. which is 1/3 gulf water. month after the spill started, they both fell out. My moms guts shut down and my dad had clots in his lungs. Both were very active up until then. mom walked 2 miles a day and dad got up at 5 am and went to the gym. the Dr. told my sister that god was coming for mom. I sent the wifey down for 3 weeks and she brought them back from the brink. they still eat the local seafood.
