middle FCS plug damaged on old longboard. I have a 8'6 or so, with a thruster FCS fin setup. Its a hybrid funshape/longboard. I damaged the middle fin box when i was riding it in the summer on a single fin setup. I must have caught the fin on a reef or something, but basically, the fin is somewhat intact, but it is bent to about an 80 degree angle rather than a 90 degree, and the crack around the plug is taking in water. I tried to simply fill with resin and cut up glass, then i put a couple peices of glass around the plug in layers, but after a couple of weeks, the whole panel of glass and resin just cracked off. Still taking in water... So, basically, this is how i am going to tackle it... I will need to cut all the way around the middle plug and pull the plug as well as some foam out. Then I have to re-insert the plugat the proper angle etc, then basically reglass and repair the whole area... The only other option, i dont have the right clamping equipment. The board is too wide and thick to keep enough pressure on the plug to keep it pressed down in the right angle for a few days until the resin sets etc.... So, does my first plan of attack make sense to any shapers/repair guys in here?
Put the plug back in like you were gonna and to set the angle just insert the fin back it . The good plug will old the fin while keeping the plug you are repairing striaght. I have done them like that before , you can go on fsc website and order the tool to set them but it really wouldnt be worth it.
