I ride goofy so it's been more common for me but I don't shy away from backside barrells if it's there for the taking, i'm just not as confident in my abilities but I try it anyways when I can. Don't think i'll have to worry about "those kind" of pins, we are talking about surfing, I get the Gruvi reference though HAHA
Being a reglar foot, surfing lots of left barrells got me confident on the backside. It's all mind. Plus you have the advantage of pigdogging (grab rail) so you can get in critical tubular sections and make it back out. Plus on the bottom turn it's all off your heels so you can get very powerful down the line projection. The real trick is to see how far down the wave you want to be when you turn, cause you can't see the lip. So watch it from the beach and get a game plan, then after getting whacked on the first couple, you'll find the sweet spot and it's time to get pitted backhand.
sis, pigdogging has been my go to move. definition has changed, but in college in a dry spell id get wasted and fully go pigdogging. in the mornings id smell like regret and shame
