I know you mean well but your wasting your time. The entire continent of Africa is one of the most corrupt places in the world. Nothing ever gets done there by us. Those people have to help themselves before we can. I mean its one of the richest in land minerlas in the world but the poor people never see any of that money. I suggest you join a mission or Peace Cor. I think you could do more.

I plan to either the peace corps or some sort of NGO after college. every nation in africa is part of the N.A.M., the Non-Alliance Movement, and have been since the 60's and just about every nation that's part of it has suffered or is suffering from internal conflict. there's a direct correlation between the highest lack of energy sources and highest amount of poverty, so overall, the best thing to do would be help the countries get energy to their people. Obviously I don't think all of that can be done now, but in time. and we need to start by stopping some of the horrible things, with kony being first on the list. Also, I'd like to add, I think this is really a job for the U.N., but they've proven to be incapable...

    Keep it up.

Keep up the good work. Ignore the haters.

Notice how the haters are saying, "you would be better off solving a problem here" instead of them saying "Hey I am too busy trying to make my corner of the world a better place." Too busy burnin and eating cheetos I supose.

And yes, I am a veteran, gave 6 years of my life to make a difference. I am also active and engaged in my local community, surfing and otherwise. Everyone has their part to play.

"There are life enhancers, grass cutters and well poisoners" Life enhancers try to improve others lives. Grass cutters get a piece of land and just tend to their own (lawn) corner of the world and well poisoners stomp on other people dreams and actions.

Its obvious and tragic where some who post on here fall in that spectrum.

Discounting someone's opinion or ideas because of youth is a major misstep, in my (and Bob Dylan's) opinion...:)

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
Don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
Your old road is Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand

Can I ask what you did in the service for 6 years? No offense, but you don't sound exactly like military material. Perhaps a cook?

How am I "hating"? Because I rather take care of MY country instead of some third world one? I'm not saying what's going on over there is good. Not at all. But, we have to draw the line somewhere, right? We are all over this world fighting other peoples wars, cleaning up their messes. Our people are dying for what? All I'm saying is if we spent the same amount of time on our own problems we would be ahead of the game.

I have the feeling you are a chick. I'm not sexist in the least, and people may not agree with me on this but, I feel very strongly about women not being in the front lines. They don't belong there. A woman's feelings are completely different then a man's. We think differently, react differently. You sound like a tree hugger. The military in no place for that. So, to me it sounds like you weren't in actual combat, so you won't understand.

youth has nothing to do with it...being in college does. I'd take advice/opinion from a 20 year old plumbers apprentice any day.. not so much from a college student.

So if there was someone in college studying biochemistry... someone in college studying law.. someone in college studying bio-medical engineering.. and then a 20 year old plumber apprentice... you would take the plumbers advice?

... *face palm* ... *slow clap*

what a person studies has no influence on personal intelligence.... a plumber has real world experience while a college student has books and theories to rely on.... just playing devils advocate.

But a lot of college students, including my self, have jobs at the same time.... thus entitling us to real world experience... then when we end up getting or major or whatever, we quit our job and start our career... thus giving us more real world experience... so i don't really get that.

And someone studying something as difficult as biochemistry (etc) would need a lot of personal intelligence...

there's a lot to it then a job. is it part time? Full time? Its more about responsibility and making it on ones own. the plumber is most likely putting in the hours, paying his own way in life. THAT is what grows people up very quickly and breeds common sense.

Right.. but in that sense a college student who is studying in college keeping up his/her gpa, and paying for their schooling loans, transportation to school, food, etc, at the same time, through whatever job they do- would also "grow them up very quickly and breed common sense"

in that case there would be partial truth but even then they are subsidized in some form or another plus most student loans (unless they are private) do not need to be repaid until after graduation. generally college insulates people from the pressures of everyday life. when you get out and have to make it 100 percent financially on your own is when most people develop that sort of grounded common sense.

So.. because a college student has to keep his GPA up to receive certain scholarships/stay in whatever programs, and pass school in general, work a lot (wether they are an casual employee, a manager, whatever) and be smart in saving his money due to the fact that he/she will have to pay off loans within the near future, pay off any kind of transportation, pay off food whether they are on a meal plan or not, and then other things life requires such as clothing, hygeine items, etc.... they are UNABLE to match wits on life/responsibility with a 20 year old plumber who just graduated highschool 1-2 years ago and has probably been in the buisness for that long as well studying it in highschool through a vocational school...... ok then.

didn't say match wits, I'm sure they could debate just fine, but I'm talking about real world advice. Colleges deal in the theoretical and not the real world of hands on. i see it every day dealing with medical students. exceptionally bright people but until they walk into the hospital they have only theory. That theory goes out the window the second they have to deal with a live human being. in fact quite a few abandon clinical medicine in favor of the lab.

Its the same with your post. The GOAL of getting Kony is highly laudable BUT the practical nature of this campaign is not well thought out. What happens after he is caught? How many people have to die in order to catch him? What is the affect of putting lots of money in the pockets of those who are hunting him? I fear that the answers to these questions will not be a positive outcome.

Plus you have to take into account that there are MANY charities the prey on the idealistic to enrich themselves. I guess its on of those rites of passage you just have to learn the hard way. I did it when i got caught up in the African starvation cause in the 80s. Spent time and energy raising awareness and money only to find out the money that was being sent over there was being used by the corrupt warlords to further their own enrichment but didn't do a damn thing to help the starving people. I learned to be very cynical and base my charitable decisions on facts and not emotional appeals. those are the kinda of hard lessons I'm talking about and most rarely get in college.
