I am looking to purchase a new surfboard and I am not sure on which board to go with. It's been a while since I purchased a brand new surfboard. My goal is to find a board that can handle a wide range of surf conditions and give me the best perfomance. I shopped around and these are the boards that I am interested in. Please give some feedback on which you think I should go with.
    My vote is for the FireWire Dominator (Rapidfire) - 5'10" x 20" X 2 1/2" (5 Fin).

Me: 5'7", 170lbs, Experienced Surfer, I Surf Delaware, Ocean City.MD, New Jersey.

+1 for the Nugget and the Rising Son. Seems like Santa Cruz Pumpkin Seeds are pretty popular around here. I surf the same places and I think my overall favorite board is a 6'0 (I'm 6'1 / 185) round nose fish kinda thing. Not super great on ultra steep OC, but everywhere else, it's consistently the right choice. ...I know this is a long shot, but just thinking of people I know from the lineup who live in Milford - this isn't Damien is it?

    Close - Dwayne
I do love the Nugget, but only able to find a 5'8" in the area. I would feel better with a 5'10", I may need to order directly from WRV in VA.

Actually Thailand, but might as well be China. Cheap Asian non-surfer labor.

The White Diamond is an amazing board that can handle a broad range of conditions. Robert is a nice guy and great to work with. I would call him and hash out a custom. I would bet the nugget is very similar to the WD, but have never seen one in person. You could probably get a great custom from Bob as well.

I currently ride my custom WRV 6'4" Simular to RocketFish, Had it for about 12 years and still is my goto board, but would like to drop size to get more performance, I saw the Nugget and it has a great shape and WRV's hold up well. :)

I hear ya... Cheaply made boards for high cost - $630.00 and up, that's one reason I posted this forum. I always surfed fiberglass boards, the epoxy looks cheap and stiff, plus I have seen so many guys complain about layers splitting and tuff to repair... Thanks for your input.

Have you checked out Coil yet?

    http://www.coilsurf.com/

EPS/epoxy vacuum bagged composite made in Florida, US. Durable and lively. Can't recommend them enough.

Mike Daniel used to shape for Coil and can make you whatever you want. The website is severely lacking in content, but that's only because the underground hype has been so high that they don't need to market themselves.

+1 on Coil. I think he meant to say Mike Daniels used to shape for WRV, now he shapes for Coil.

If you like the Nugget, you might like these models:

    1. The firewire dominator i would think you can\'t go wrong with for the east coast waves. Top shortboard on www.surfscience.com by user reviews\r\n2. Cross the spitfire out.\r\n3. The wrv nugget. Not a east coast board cross that off\r\n4. The wrv Wambat looks like money also with the firewire dominator. Good looking shape. Looks fun.\r\n5. I would add the stretch fletcher quad as a maybe but i think the 1dominator or 2wambat is the best choice.\r\nThe End

Im pretty sure the wrv nugget is more of an east coast shape. The va beach wrv is selling 7 nuggets to every chronic. Im thinking their on to something. Its supposed to be rideable from knee to head high. The dominater is also an awesome shape but a bit more expensive.

Why is the WRV nugget not an east coast board?

    -Made on the east coast
-Marketed by WRV for east coast conditions

It also happens to look like a great shape for the kind of smallish a-frames the mid atlantic gets all the time.

By the way so does that Coil pictured above...(which happens to look a lot like the nugget)

I have a Nugget and it's hands down the best board I've ever purchased.

First of all, the COIL looks Bad A$$...
I found a 5'9" Nugget that I will mostlikely go with (I can't say where or somebody might grab it). I have been eyeing this board up for a while now.
It was difficult finding a local surf shop that carries WRV. Benthany has one, but too small for me. K-Coast has a couple, but are too large. The next available place is WRV in Virginia, which is about three hours away.

Thanks for all your input :) - I'll keep you all posted on how my new WRV Nugget 5'9" x 20" x 2 3/4" rides.

Personally, I think if your going to stay in the 5'9"-5'10" range I would not ride a board 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" thick. I am 5'9" and 170 lbs so we're pretty similar. I think that's going to be way too floaty. If you choose to go with a 5'9 or 5'10, my suggestion is to not go any wider than 20" and either go with 2 5/16 or 2 3/8 thickness. I ride a Rusty Pirhana (mainly for knee-chest but can be ridden in bigger surf), 5'10 x 19 1/2 x 2 1/4 that I got when I weighed 155-160ish lbs. I'm looking for a new one now but due to the extra poundage I gained and the added weight of a wetsuit which is pretty much year round I will up the thickness to either a 2 5/16 or 2 3/8 max. Just my two cents. Good luck.
