Anyone have recommendations for places to surf in the Cape Town area in February? The primary purpose of my trip is to connect with three non-surfer friends, so looking for spots close to the city that will have fun surf AND be accessible for novice surfers and people who just want to chill on the beach (ie. no J-Bay pilgrimage, unfortunately...).

Camps Bay, Clifton, and Llandudno beaches have all been previously recommended by a South African friend but he does not surf. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Try Dungeons in Cape Town. Very cool place for us SI surfers, us highly talented fearless dudes!!!

Depends where you are staying and what types of waves you are looking for. You're not really in swell season for Cape Town, so most of the city reef breaks wont be working. There are a handful of good reefs right in town, but they need a big swell to light up.

Of the three you mentioned, Llundudno gets really good, but will be very cold at that time of year (>50 degree water if the winds are blowing). I wouldn't waste your time with Camps and Clifton, but if you are there to check out the scenery it's (maybe) worth bringing a board. There are good beach breaks north of the city once you clear the island shadow. If there is any sort of real swell showing it is worth the drive down to Komjettie/Long Beach. Actually, it's worth the drive anyway. Garden route has some spots (halfway to J Bay) that might work, plus its a fun trip to take with non-surfing friends.
