Im going for 2 weeks in August and I can get the economy car for real cheap($120) but I've heard that the roads to the surf are a little screwy and you need 4x4($600). Is this true? Would the small car in the least limit the spots I could go to? Is it worth spending that much more money? I appreciate any input. Thanx guys.
while i have never rented a car there, i have been 2x & from what i can tell, 4x4 is the way to go, esp. in the rainy season. even if you don't wind up needing it, better safe than sorry is my view. that the roads are "a little screwy" is an understatement.
Go with a 4x4 - I was there last October and debated the same thing. I rented a 4x4 drove the **** out of it and it was something like $550 for 5/6 days. Even the main roads have ridiculous pot holes in some places, and if you're heading to Santa Catalina (which you should) then you definitely need 4 wheel drive. It's worth it man...
Santa Catalina is exactly where I'm going. I guess I will get the 4x4. Man thats a lot of money. I always try to do things cheap cuz then I can stay longer. Anyways, thanx guys.
