So I forgot to mention that in addition to supplemental insurance, they also have life and accident insurance too. Is that what you meant? Sorry if I missed that. I am still digesting all the info I have been given so far.

That's good, wasn't sure if they piss you in that line of work. I don't chief anymore, haven't for a while but I don't judge. And I understand that most people in this industry do. We've lost some really good potential employees that got popped on the test, so I try to give fair warning when I think its applicable.
Hope the job works out for you, man

Your test is “the life and health” license. You can implement all kinds (most...not registered products where you need a securities license) if life and health products.

You can do that job. And also, for example, recommend a 30 year term product to a sweller who just had a baby and needs some coverage.

You would process that business directly with respective insurance carrier and get a commission.

You would review insurance coverage with anybody you know who needs it. Note, your new job could forbid ‘moonlighting’ but it’s really pretty flexible and since you are directly contracted with various carriers it should not be an issue...unless they pull your state license report and are strict about it.

But, b/c you are 1099 that tells me you would be an independent contractor so you ‘should’ be able to be independent with all of your contracts.

Gotcha, I will learn more as I go, this is all so new to me. Never thought I’d go into insurance but it seems like an easy sale once you know the details of how it all works and can explain it to the client.

DP, chiming in a little late here cause I've not been posting much lately, but been following this and sorry to hear about the layoff. Actually been following since the first poste cause I can relate to some of the same things right now... compared to other jobs I've had in the same career field I pretty much hate what I do on a day to day basis and am completely miserable most of the time I'm in the office, but the location (no commute and 10 min from beach), hours (rarely more than 40), and salary are all phenomenal. My situation lacks the uncontrollable negatives though, i.e. I have plenty of job security so the smart move is clearly to just make the most of it, keep optimizing my life outside of the office, and trust that sooner or later either a clear better opportunity will open up or this one will improve due to promotion, reorganization, or management changes. Ego, temper, and self-pity present occasional obstacles on that path, but it's fairly manageable except when we go through extended flat spells.

Sounds like things are already looking up for you, figured they would pretty quickly, sales def seems like one of the more useful skill/experiences sets to have from a career bulletproofing standpoint. Very few people can do it well naturally, most who can't aren't willing to put in the work to get good at it (myself included), it's always going to be needed, and the direct bottom-line impact means there's not much ambiguity about the value add.

One of my best friends took a job selling insurance a few years ago when he was at a bit of a loss where to go careerwise... he'd worked as a broker for about a year previously in life but hated it (got the initial sales training/experience though), then worked in corporate finance for a while but hated that so much he eventually just quit his job and took a six month road trip around the country. Wasn't sure what to do when he got back so he took the insurance job thinking this may or may not working out but nothing to lose by giving it a try... six years later he's pretty much killing it and I don't think he's ever second-guessed the decision. It was actually because of that job that I got my free trip to hawaii last fall... it was an incentive reward for being in the top whatever percent of salespeople nationally for a given quarter, trip for two to hawaii and his wife couldn't go cause of work so it became an all expenses paid bro surf trip. Hopefully this works out similarly for you... lots of money, super flexible schedule, and free trips to hawaii that line up with good swells.

Thank you for your post. It is very encouraging to hear. I hope that’s what happens for me as well.

I need to pass the exam ASAP and get in the field and enrolling people right away because financially I really have no room for error.

That is good on a way because when my back is against the wall I always come out fighting. I’m hungry and motivated as a result.

The only negative is not knowing when my first paycheck will come. So hopefully I can stay above water till that happens.

I hope you improve your situation as well, good luck to you!

    Sorry to hear that.

This is what my company uses so I can get CEUs for my licenses. Cheaper than sending us to actual, live, classroom, face-to-face training. Some of the courses are decent, some are meh.

Right on. The company itself isn’t the issue, it’s the new management in charge that sucks. What type of license you hold?

they're gonna make you try to bilk people and sell em whole life policies as "investments" bc you cant sell securities without series 7 or finra or whatever those licenses are. ask me how i know. always go term. thought you dixie boys listened to dave ramsey all day.

how did you get one of those work from home jobs? what industry were you in? i would kill for that. for anyone who's hiring, i'm interested. i'm goin remote baby. have law license in northern and southern states. is that sleazy? holla at me

For anybody who missed it. Leads provided from union groups and associations. No selling to my family or friends, they don’t push that. The programs are not available to the general public. Although, those who enroll or sign up can refer their family or friends, kinda like a credit union.

Cool, I had about 5,000 clients, many of which were P.E.’s and LEED AP’s. Not sure who you dealt with but good chance we may have spoken before. :)
