I can now leave interviewing for all of you employed drones. Thank god I am retired!! Now, my interview skills amounts to this: "Do I go right or left off of that peak??" I hope you guys al get there as well!! Invest--it is a short-cut there!!
Show me how Barry, i'm a moron when it comes to that stuff, afraid to lose all my hard earned money. Gambling it is...
Educated gambling and NOT dependent on strictly luck, as are cards and dice. Hard to teach over the internet. But if I could, I would have a classroom, invite you all, and share with you what WORKS FOR ME. May not be foolproof, but works for me.
Came a lot sooner than supposed to, but through pure mismanagement, company informed me this morning that they are afraid they won’t be able to make payroll and suggested I go on unemployment. They also don’t know I’m aware purchase and sales has been signed supposedly for the pending sale of property and business. We have 170 boats on premises and hundreds of hours of scheduled off season work as well as spring commissioning that starts in April - a MOUNTAIN of work. There is a large portion of money “on the street” that would keep things rolling along until the finish which was the original thought, end of spring, but it’s there and not in the bank. Because they let things go too long and too much and end of year closing cost us with venders who don’t wait to get paid, unlike us aparrently. Compounding things in general is the fact that winter storage contracts go until May 15...don’t know what’s gonna hit first - locks on doors or new ownership giving everyone the heave ho contracts be dammed. Either way, here I am again. Waaaahhh. I’ll ghost around and make ends meet but I’m 48 - I’ve been working since I was 13 doing a mans job And somehow this pill is very bitter. I’m supposed to be beyond this crap. Won’t get into a litany of life story but when I say I should NOT be in this position, believe me I’m not lying. All the right ingredients but a crappy recipe and execution I guess. And I’m rambling and haven’t even contributed to thread so I apologize buoys.
Yeah. It’s been actively on the market since early summer so the ink was in the pen - the supposed purchase and sales was signed about a month ago. I’ve seen Title V services trucks here over the last week or two as well. These guys are not going to let that fall through and there is also a good monthly nut to make with mortgage etc. so there’s money - just been allocated elsewhere. It’s like a race to the finish I guess. Wouldnt surprise me that it’s set up financially to stay afloat until new ownership comes in and takes the keys. My payroll isn’t mountainous but it’s $5K plus a month...
Damn man that's a bummer. Someone as talented as you will find something better i'm sure. I firmly believe when one door closes, another one opens. Don't let it get you down for too long. Get your name out there and someone will bring you on. Starting your own business is another option. Follow your heart and go with what you feel will make you happy. Not the most money necessarily, but gives you time / freedom to do the things you love and enough money to pay the bills and then some.
La_Piedra took the words from my mouf, Biggsy. Maybe you could work a deal, defer some income, still get paid enough to cover your overhead? I know nada about your biz, but 170 boats sitting there awaiting hands-on seems like a tall order for the new owners - - seems they'd want highly experienced people to stay on to keep revenue flowing.
The original wish was for another marine business to step in - this place is Taj Mahal for marine service and has been since the 90’s. New ownership was split on keeping it so the sale idea came into play and I was going to stay on me keep running the show and wrenching like normal. That didnt happen it seems.
What is bad is I’m THE GUY here. Meaning, I’m it. I’ve been able to/had to manage servicing 228 + customers for the last three seasons because we couldn’t find any new blood or experienced guys in the business. Lots of posers but I can’t have a $250K boat being hacked and not running when it’s time... bad for business. But the flip side is it’s on me. I’m only able to because I’m a work horse but with a lot of experience working under guys that taught me well. Made me valuable. So now if I’m not here working and getting billables out, then everything just stops dead in the water. I may go on unemployment but bank hours here to keep the work going until money comes in but I’m not sure I’m getting the real picture/story and don’t want to go playing games like that for nothing or worse, to cover other games afoot. It’s all pretty murky and not what I was remotely prepared for day after Christmas. My poor wife is gonna flip.
