SB, I am behind you and the SI guys 100%. However, do you feel like if we just ignored the MSW guys they would go away?

 

You can start your own forum if you want and talk about whatever you want.
Its very cheap and inexpensive. In the meantime, please adhere to the rules we laid out in the very first thread:

- No Inappropriate Language
- No Making offensive/insulting comments
- No spamming
- No Threatening other members
- No sexually explicit material
- No discussion regarding engaging of illegal activities
- No Hijacking thread topic (unrelated tangent).
- No Trolling (creating a stir for no reason)

This forum is intended for the surf community to have real discussion, not a small group of people to band together in hatred. Sorry, to cut into your freedom, but seriously, start your own forum if thats what you want.

 

BTW, I see 3 more threads have been locked just this morning. The mentioning of MSW has some significance here. Swellinfo Admin is straight regulating. SI guys raided MSW and got banned. MSW raided SI and we're getting shut down from our admin. Has MSW won the battle?

I have seen a lot more vulgarity in recent threads than in the MSW battles and not get shut down. It looks like the milk has finally spilled.

 

Nobody reported you, and it has nothing to do with MSW guy.

Its about keeping things regulated around here... There are non stop threads of hate and explicit material, insulting other members. Things were actually going pretty smooth up until last week, and so the moderators fell asleep at the wheel.

We will be doing a better job of handing out infractions and bans and ip bans where necessary. This forum doesn't make any money, thats not why it exists. It exists to support the Swellinfo Community with real discussion for the surf community. Call it lame and boring, but outside of the forum, we are actually trying to run a real business. We could shut down the forum and not have to deal with managing this all, but we really like the idea of allowing users to communicate and share surf stuff... But, maybe its not worth the time and effort, and we'll just shut it down, like so many other surf forums have done.

 

Is this why ECS shut down a while back?

 

I like having the forum. I also like the SI forecast site.

 

I can't say for sure, but most likely. I've seen it happen to many forums.
The owner doesn't want to deal with the BS and trying to maintain the forum, so they just give up.
Just think about how much effort is required to oversee all of the posts and threads.

Glad to hear this...I have always enjoyed the forum and even some of the trolls, but seems like in the last few months level of maturity (or "sophistication" as one poster stated in another thread) has dropped significantly. Interested to see how the admins./you Will manage things in near future...

 

ECS didn't get shutdown cause of trash talking. From what I can understand, it was shutdown due to cost (ads, cams, networking, IT issues, and the such). Regardless they still had a section where you could bash trash curse ramble rant and belittle anyone or anything. It made the rest of the threads readable. The mods had the chore of moving threads to appropriate categories. Trash-talking on this forum is like skating at your local high-school or library. It will be done anywhere there are chances. Put in a skate park the problem diminishes exponentially.

Honestly though, if the forum shuts down I won't care too much. It will be about as annoying as stepping in gum. I love the site though.

 

I want to know why it took so long to step in admin? The kooks have been running the lineup here.

 

Well, simod, is supposed to be moderating things daily, but he hasn't be really keeping up on things very closely . Myself, I don't spend a lot of time reading all the threads, and generally busy working on the rest of the site. So, basically we weren't doing a good enough job looking over everything. Its actually a big pain in the butt, but I guess that what you have to deal with if you want to run a public forum.

 

i mean, no one was really doing anything really offensive up until this week. i don't really blame them. and SI can't stop someone from going on MSW and posting either. that's not his job and shouldn't be. IP bans are real deal so i don't blame them for not throwing them around as often as they could.

everybody needs to just get over themselves on this whole thing. all this hate stuff is ridiculous. good lord guys, if it's that flat where you guys are get off the comouter and head outside. forget the phone, laptop, whatever. Get in the water do something. you shouldn't be proud of winning a hater of the year award unless you are in a chappelle show skit.

we shouldn't make swellinfo's job any harder than it has to be. these guys like to surf too. the more crap they have to deal with on here, the less they get to surf. that ain't fair. i want everybody to get iin the water and get some especially if that's what they love to do.

well I can understand that. so... there has been a huge amount of posting activity since around the boston marathon bombing. A lot of it was just wackado govt cover ups and conspiracy crazyness.. And to be honest it probably has chased off a lot of the regulars. I don't think people mind the occasional off topic stuff but people were starting to sit down at their computers with tin foil hats on..

 

The problem around here is Wayne. If the swell info guy could only notice that whenever Wayne posts his Jesus freak speak stuff people around here get all ape crazy.

Please SI stop Wayne. Don't let him post this trash around here. Or do and I will continue to ape around on it,, just sayin. I intend to obey the rules tho.

 

No the problem is that there appears to be a legion of people that have nothing going on in their real lives and spend waaaay to much time posting here. I check this page every day and I don't even know who this wayne guy is as far as what he is posting.
Go outside and find someone to have a real conversation with.

 

Seriously? you just replied to two "wayne" threads that hadn't been touched in weeks or months. If you don't like something, ignore it and it might just go away. Threads about "what wetsuit should I wear tomorrow" are annoying as well, but they seem to just die.
