I have to say I'm glad I no longer own any ci boards. This company has the become so arrogant. The prices that they charge for their boards are even a joke.

I happened to be on their website the other day and came across one of their responses to a customer on their forum image.jpg

They refused to give this guy any information about their boards bottom contours, rocker, etc. They claim people will be able to rip their shapes off.

As a consumer I love reading about each shapers models and their specs online. Roberts, DHD, Sharpeye and other shapers put all their info out their which has helped me find exactly what I'm looking for. It makes it so much easier for the customer to decide which board suits them.

I'm glad to see most local guys aren't riding their boards where I live. I've noticed those who ride them seem to be out of towners or rich kids getting dropped off in dad's land rover. I guess that's who they appeal and market to tho, those who have money to burn and want to ride what Kelly, Rob and Dane ride.

never owned or rode an al merrick but they do look good and the best ride them but those prices are surfboard extortion.their boards cost more than I payed for my car.the 300-500 range is a better option but I buy all my boards used.nowadays u can ride anything in any condition.the only thing ur payin for on a ci is the logo on the board.

    Landrover

So why are they kooks? No one made you go to their web page and certainly, no one made you buy a CI. I'm not defending them but what is your point? I buy what want I want and I do what I want by whatever means I want. Don't badger us about a company who has their own marketing strategies that don't cater to your needs. It sounds like you want to be dropped off at the beach in a Land Rover, but your bitter that your not. My lil brother rips the h3ll out of CI boards and he trusts every one that he purchases and he drives a pretty fly car to the beach. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you need to stop acting like a wankster.

    Wankster - LOL.

He is right though - chefs don't always give out there recipes, teachers don't always explain the answer, car companies hold dozens of patents. Maybe CI wants to not divulge there secrets - regardless of who can decode them- because they have pride in there efforts.

So judgemental man. Kooks? Have you told everyone everything, every time they ask you? Whats your social sec number? You better tell me that or your withholding information and may be considered a kook.

It is a little extreme of CI... but that's their call. The potential customer can call them up and maybe talk to one of the workers there to get a better idea of what board they want. I dont know man... what's the definition kook these days anyway haha

Channel Islands Kooks? so you where one once?ha no but really i cant call them ****...because ive never rode one but i look down on them for being mass produced youll lose quality with that. id go with a local shaper or a small company that makes boards by hand, if you take human touch out of the board it loses its luster and integrity.

I think I know how frustrating it can be when you're asking for information and not hearing what you want to . Just chill and think about what it is your really after and try to explain why you're asking that particular question. If you're serious about the purchase then you might be more forgiving in your attitude towards the company. Obviously they are selling enough boards to stay afloat so maybe it's worth a second chance.
    Maybe or maybe not.

Are you mad because KFC will not give you their secret 11 herbs and spices or that Coke will not give you their secret formula? This is America and we have rights to our personal and intellectual property, why should surfboard measurements be any different? You sound like a Socialist.

I could care less about what your brothers rides or how "fly" his car is. Sounds like I may of struck a nerve with you because he fits the typical stereotype I was noticing.

What makes it kooky is that they expect you to just buy their boards without you knowing the shape or design.

They expect you to pay $750 and won't tell someone whether or not the bottom is a single or double concave…

    get over yourself's

Actually I'm an independent conservative who believes in capitalism, despises Obama, and is far from a socialist…but thats for another time.

When you buy a $3 bucket of chicken or a $1 coke nobody gives a S*** what the ingredients are. When you get good at surfing (because obviously you are still a beginner) a surfboard becomes a very specific and personalized purchase thats designed to do what you want it to do.

Once you get off your foam longboard, maybe one day you will understand that.

How many shops do you know that have every model or size of every board just sitting on their rack? None. Thats why you rely on a company's customer service dept or whatever to figure out what the deal is with a specific board you are interested in.

The KFC and Coke comparison was just that, a comparison moron. The point still remains that Al is justified in keeping his designs private. Like Njsurfer said quit relying on the intraweb and go put your hands on a damn board. I am quite sure Channel Islands would let you know if a board was single/double or whatever concave you wanted (this is from CI's site under the Fred Rubble description "Features single to double concave and comes standard in a squash tail."), also they make customs so you can get what ever your heart desires. And you think I'm a beginner because I defend intellectual property rights? What a sh!t bag! In addition I only ride boards made by a local shaper and have been surfing for 22 years and would never buy a mass produced CI or any other big name board even if they published all the specs for them. Get off your damn high horse, grow up and recognize Al is not making you buy his stuff even though I bet you bought the CI's you used to own cause Slater rides em right Kook? Grow up, buy local and stop being a baby.:

back when they were less exp (pre-Burton), I owned a couple CIs and they were definitely good boards. I live in an area where there are only a few shapers. I tried boards from 2 of the guys and they sucked. A lot of very good surfers in my area ride CI boards...maybe for that same reason. Another good thing about CI is, if you order a board, it'll be ready in a fraction of the time a handshape would.

It could be considered that, if you ask about technical details, you don't trust they know what they're doing with their own shapes. On that note, if you ask good local shaper to do something he knows will turn out an inferior product, he's probably going to try to talk you out of it.

Not that I own a CI surfboard, but this site reviews a lot of their boards http://www.shredshow.com/ if any needed to know the contours of a board.

I rather buy used boards or ones from a local shaper. A better price and made for waves for your area.

Uh, go to a shop and take a look at the board? These google machines are making people lazy and entitled.
