good post brew, I agree, the compromise a few years ago moved the Battle Flag from atop the globe down to the grounds next to a confederate memorial statue .
I do not see why at this time they did not fly the actual CSA flag,
    or
change it now to the actual flag
the battle flag really has no place and as stated is just a symbol of contention
I do not think the actual real CSA flag stirs nowhere near as much hate, that would be my suggerstion and don't see why anyone who have a problem with it...but in reality the south lost,it was close a few twist and turns at Gettysburg and it woulda been different but fate didn't allow it...the majority of defeated nations are not usually allowed to fly their flags that represent the country at wartime(the Japanese rising sun flag, the Nazi flag, etc etc)
but it is in reality just a flag
and the u.s flag also has as many skeletons as any other as it was flown for almost 100 years while slavery was legal

I'm not a huge fan of flag worship in any form. No disrespect to the veterans on here. I think nationalism is dangerous.

This tread could use a mod: my thoughts and prayers are for the victims and their families. Don't take your eyes and hearts away from the real situation here. Polarizing issues such as gun control and flags didn't cause this aggression.

Alright, alright boys, I love a good Swellinfo political fight as much as the next guy, but let's settle down. Ha, I haven't even read but six posts in this thread, but I know how these things go.

But most importantly, enough aboot South Carolina. Let's talk aboot a state that matters, like New Jersey.

Do we even have a flag? I guess we do? I couldn't pick it out for nothing though.

The SC flag with the moon and the tree is so cool.

If you went to Germany, and some really old dude was sitting on his front porch in his Nazi uniform underneath a Nazi flag, and your grandpappy died on German soil trying to defeat what that flag stood for, you wouldn't think it was neat. Or old timey. Or that it represented anything but what it truly stands for. Cause you aren't stupid. That old Nazi would be sitting there telling you that even in defeat, he still holds in his heart what that flag and that uniform stood for.

Here is the only confederate flag that ever mattered.

    Surrender.jpg

Take down that stupid fvcking flag and stop being fvcking stupid.

Pretty close. The stocking hat is a "tuque" representing NJ's love for their Canadonian neighbours to the north.

The sleds are actually "shred sleds". Needless I say more?

The two ladies? Hindu super-models, of course.

Not sure aboot the knight in shining armour thing.

Germany has laws about displaying Nazi emblems or flags. I learned a lot on my 5 week business trip in 2013. The Nazi/WW2 era of German history was a shameful time, and I think it has led to a lot of lost German pride. Basically, German pride is always seen as racism and Nazism. Pretty sad that the actions during a small part of German history pretty much destroyed hundreds of years of culture and heritage.

I thought that was New Jersey's "Seal, " which I guess is the same thing as the flag?

I don't know, but I hate when people in South Carolina get to fight aboot a flag and we here, in a real state, don't get to bicker aboot our flag.

Hell we don't even know we have a flag.

Actually New Jersey's flag should be a big plain white surrender flag - abandon all hope all who enter. You're going to get beat-down. New Jersey kills people. That's why the more forward thinking like, MIS-13, leave for different pastures. Had MIS stayed, he'd be on Philadelphia Ave in EHC hustling for nicks of diesel.

    agree SS.

Quite frankly the people I knew growing up who flew that flag were mostly anti federal government. It was like flipping the bird to people from off who thought they could tell southerners how to live and act.

The flag should come down and be put in a museum.

Wow, a political debate based slightly on Southern/Northern stuff.....

    And I'm totally absent....

MIS-13 and I are playing nice.....

Man this could mean big world changes....

Maybe Archy was right. Watch the sky..

my question is where does it stop, event mongerers latch hold and just keep going on and on sometimes, now this
    http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-retailers-confederate-flag-20150623-story.html
    whats next?
maybe rename Calhoun street because Calhoun owned slaves and we shouldn't ride down a stree named after him?
and of course we have to do something with the Citadel military college, they fired the first shot against the U.S
maybe close the Battery and white point gardens as that's where the shot was fired from
UNLV has to change their nickname no more running rebels
History is history and it should stay their and be learned from, trying to suppress and act like it didn't happen will only lead to future problems more than likely
Lunatics exist and will more than likely always exist, recognizing the fact that something is wrong with someone and dealing with their mental problems is about the only way to prevent anything from happening in the future

Hell we don't even know we have a flag.

I thought that rainbow flag was Jersey's?

Frost, I hear ya but I think the confederate flag hurts SC as a whole. I got no problem with people dispaying it on their property. A month back I saw a guy in a pick up with confederate stickers changing a flat tire for two older black ladies on the side of the road. To assume everyone who has a confederate flag is racist is no different than assuming that all sharks want to eat people.(That was the most racially sensitive way to put it sorry if I offended shark lovers).

    Rainbow flag?

Oh, so New Jersey is now known for being homosexual?

Yeah, come to Seaside Heights right now and say that in some random bar on the boardwalk, preferably EJ'S.

I don't know if that snarky remark is more insulting to the state of New Jersey or homosexuals. Does either want to be associated with the other?

    I don't know.

Score one for Lazy E. Sticking-it to New Jersey. Hey our landfills and superfund sites are better than yours.
