My feeling is that the word "terrorism" was vague to begin with, and is being expanded and re-interpreted to the point where it no longer serves much purpose. It might even be a term that is being abused by some to provide cover for investigating or prosecuting criminal acts without due process. Sorry if this is inappropriate to say in the this thread about this horrific tragedy.
Yep you are correct that is what they are wanting .. Circumvent due process the very standard this country was founded on....I'm by far no bleeding liberal but if this country loses due process we are in deep ****e...
Yes, Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist and fit the profile we've been seeing lately. Once I heard there had been a shooting at a black church in an area of the country that is not very well off economically, I knew the killer would be a white "shy" male in his twenties. Everyone would say what a quiet kid he was. His lawyer even described him as a "normal" 21 year old. But, others would say the kid was weird. His online ramblings would be full of hate toward a minority group. Anyways, what normal 21 year old has a lawyer? If we treat this as terrorism and we know the profile of the terrorist, there might be a chance to stop these guys before it happens. His friends took his gun away from him because of all of his racist rants. Then they gave it back and now 9 people are dead. Too bad his friends didn't call the FBI.
A friend sent me this pic and the caption: "Hey Ferguson. Hey Baltimore. This is South Carolina. This is how we do it. We are family. No riots. No looting. Nobody acting like animals. What do you see here? Multi-racial. Multi-ethnic. All colors. All races. Banding together to defeat evil."
Eh, our state deserves some criticism. That said, making this horrible tragedy about the confederate flag or about our street names seems pretty silly. Those are just relics of a different time. Hiding them won't make the events of the past go away. There is real blatant racism still alive in this state, and that should be where we focus our attention.
Tis true. For all the neo-confederate bs and racial tension here, this city is still very diverse and friendly. I live a half mile from a Gullah community. I run right through it every day. Many of the neighbors that live there know me and we always say good morning to eachother. I don't even see them as black (or white). They are Gullah, and I respect them for their culture and traditions. They gave Charleston some amazing food as well.
Only if they bus in rioters. Most of the commotion over the whole event here has actually come from outside groups and a few local non African American activists. Doesn't matter, because he won't get off.
