Nope, this isn't a scene out of Free Willy.

It's actually taking place in the Army Bay, New Zealand, where a kayaker casually jumped out of his vessel to hang out with a curious orca on Monday. Tim Stewart is said daring kayaker, who told the NZ Herald he went down to the ocean after he heard of orca sightings in the area.

Stewart said he wasn't scared at the start, but noticed the orca had its mouth open when he made his way into the water. "I thought 'he just wants to play, but I hope he doesn't drag me down for a play,'" he told the news outlet.

The footage was captured via drone by Topview Photography. Although it is a friendly-looking moment, it's worth noting that swimming within 100 metres (109 yards) of the animal is illegal in New Zealand.

IDK, judging the behavior of a wild, free animal vs one kept in essentially a veal pen seems off. Never a reported orca kill in the wild unlike our friends the sharks, right? Or are they just smart enough to do it with no witnesses?

I'm a lot more afraid of orcas and humpbacks than I am with sharks.i saw blackfish lol.they might seem friendly til they grab u and take u down 50ft and u drown.atleast with a shark youll bleed out and be dead a lot faster.worst case scenario is sitting in the lineup and one pops out and lands on u,but I'm sure its too shallow for them but ya never know lol

I think he was referring to the summer humpbacks in bikinis on the beach....

LOL I'd maybe believe he has seen a humpback, but i'm willing to put money on it that he's never seen an Orca while surfing, especially in NJ.

Oddly enough for the third time in my life I saw well today while out surfing it was about a 18 foot pilot whale / right whale w.e The hell it was I thought it was a shock at first the way it breached but then after I saw the second breach I knew it was a whale. It's pretty cool to see a whale.

Beautiful, but I`d be scared to death if I`m ever that close to a wild Orca. Good nothing bad happened.
