Anybody got like a 5'3 to 5'5 Channel Islands neck beard or biscuit for a decent price? Preferably with fcs
Negative, but I saw Machado handling an "upgraded" biscuit during Surfline LIVE in Oceanside this past Saturday. Full replay is avail online but not sure how far in it was. I've got a biscuit that's lots of fun, but some days it feels clunky, like it's needing a longer period swell to come alive, but given its outline it doesn't work well in larger surf so while it's a fun board it's a bit limited (for me). My guess is he's made some modifications for the better that might make it more versatile in a wider range of conditions. It's probably closer to the neck beard's shape now -- narrower nose and thinner rails. Still a fun board so it's worth finding out what he's done. But I think the biscuit has a lot more volume than the neck beard. I wouldn't think these two boards would feel the same at all.
Is the board you're talking about "The Gravy?" I too am about to pull the trigger on the Biscuit but I am now considering the Gravy too.
I've had a fiscuit for 3 years and LOVE that board, however, I am looking at the biscuit and gravey as well. Saw the surfline video and it does look like Machado tweaked the biscuit a bit. I think all the boards Machado comes up with seem to be free spirited and fun...i dig his style "Foam is your friend"
Forgot he made the Gravy also, but I definitely heard him say Biscuit. I guess the Gravy is closer to the Neck Beard than the Biscuit is. Again, lots more foam in the biscuit, flatter rocker and wider outline which should make it faster than the Gravy, Pod or similar shapes. Rob's slow and mushy Cardiff Reef isn't exactly the same as slow and mushy beach break on the East Coast, but in waves near jetties, groins, rocky points or anything that makes the wave stand up and maintain a well-defined shoulder, it's a fun board because there's a good balance between its skateyness and its ability to accelerate. Only wish I had gotten mine 2-3" shorter.
i feel the need to chime in here for a few reasons: 1) the super slug is not at all similar to the biscuit/fishcuit. consider the dims at 5'4": bis/fis: 19 7/8"x2 3/4" the slug is 5'5"x19 1/4"x2 1/2" (i find that thickness really hard to believe) but w/ really thinned out rails. neckbeard is similar in size, but very chunky in the rail. this makes a huge difference. 2) the gravy is designed w/ better or good waves in mind. i had one & it did not work in anything below stomach high. & even when it did, it was still very strange to ride & paddle...& i have a vast amount of experience riding hybrid shortboards/retro boards/whatever you want to call them. i think it's too thinned out in the tail. mgshevs, go check out your local shop's used rack or browse craigslist...meatloaf's suggestion of a simmons quad is pretty spot on, as long as you size it right.
