other site has 5-6 ft 51 deg 9 sec for tuesday with offshores (LOLA) (forecast says 1-2 tho)...another site has 5.6ft 8 sec at 6am with offshores..but swellinfo says occ thigh sets. what will be right?... i do realize its not a significant swell just think it might have a chance at breaking that "chest" barrier i have to roll down there
hey, some info you should know: the government numeric weather models are updated 4 times a day. This data is fed into the swellinfo wave models. The swellinfo.com swell/surf/wind timelines are produced twice per day along with the detailed surf forecasts. While, swellinfo graphical maps are updated 4 times daily (wave maps, pressure maps, nearshore wind). please realize, that with east coast nearshore systems, small shifts in the forecasted storm track from one cycle update to the next can lead to significant changes in the resulting surf. When the wave maps are showing swell on the latest update that look different than the text forecast, its because the text forecasts have not been updated yet. To see when the text forecast was updated, scroll down to the bottom of the detailed forecast. bottom line: with east coast coastal systems, you have to monitor how the models shift with each cycle update, especially when you are 72hrs+ out. Here at swellinfo, our goal is to simplify and translate that process for you, while also giving you the best possible raw data and graphical resources to use if so desired. but what you really wanted to here (haha): it looks like some short period NE wind swell is on tap for sunday (primarily hitting obx) as high pressure moves into the northeast. This will drop off Monday and into Tuesday. Mostly this is going to be choppy/sloppy stuff, but as high pressure slides off the coast, the surf looks to clean up and drop fairly quickly. The latest model updates are showing more size than earlier today, but as I mentioned above any near shore systems forecasted 72+ hours out has a fair amount of uncertainty associated with it. Theres potential for some fun ones on Tuesday, but it doesn't look that exciting to me at this point. Keep an eye on it!
yea man im not talking smack about swellinfo because i think it is a GREAT site and FREE. have made many calls with the help of your forecasts... but it does look now like its picking up on it (stomach sets) ..i realize east caost is all about timing and the timing of the windshift... but again just making an observation thanks micah!!
let us know how you make out if you hit up obx tomorrow morning. I'd say rodanthe would be a good call, but aware of the early morning high tide.
