this guy would wipe is a** with all of us

along with byron davis, reece whitley, lia neal, ariana vaderpool-wallace, and many, many other internationally ranked black swimmers. oh, and TIM DUNCAN! if i remember correctly, in shaq V., shaq did not fair too poorly against Phelps (considering he had little to no swimming experience).

just bc your buddies weren't introduced to aquatics at a young age, and an importance of learning to swim wasn't stressed does not mean that black people can't swim or don a suite. a basic understanding of general economics and social issues (ie cost of wet suit & board v a football or basketball) should inform you as to why you do not see a lot of black athletes choosing surfing as a sport.

honestly, this forum should really stick to surf, beer, drugs, and food as your ignorance as to how to discuss other topics without offending people does nothing but reveal how ignorant (at least a subset) this sub-culture can be.

in fact, maybe it's better off for a lot of you that minorities (of every race) don't paddle out...if this were the discourse in the line up you'd be sure to become chum.

    out.

this subculture is a subculture of a subculture, and not very representative of anything but itself

Even better, a Black Power thread, in which it was suggested that black people can't swim.

I've surfed in the Bahamas and in the Islands Mon. Many a dark skinned fellah who can ride reef breaks and handle a motorboat with skill. The Jamaican National surf team, (not to be confused with the Bobsledders), has a couple of guys who live here part time. Great people! I have to admit, the first time I went, I was surpirsed, since I grew up the the dirty souff'. We had one black guy on our swim team who did the freestyle Tarzan style, he wouldn't put his head in the water. So that's where I come from.

This forum is too big for petty differences to divide us. It is a big tiki hut for surfers of all colors, stripes, levels of skill or kookdom, prone, upright, whatevah! Today is a good day to remember all we have in common - the love of surf, the waves, the ocean. Can't we all just get along?

    Altruism, or white guilt?

    You decide.

I'da been more impressed by a butterfly race. I was on several swim teams in my youth. I always finished last in that style.

Holy sh*t! You mean to tell me that a young strong Olympic level swimmer could out swim me? That's impossible and might I add unfair. I'm gonna petition to get a law passed that says he can only legally swim with one arm so Im no longer at a disadvantage and I can keep feeding and drinking my mushy irish ass and not have my feelings hurt when he paddles out next to me.

no, you missed the point. from the black power thread, i'm suggesting that anyone that purports to have "a" black friend or "friends" that can't swim and uses this anecdotal evidence to support your opinions, there are just as many national and international level swimmers of african decent. and a simple google search would show you that reece whitley is the NAG record holder in the 13-14 200 breaststroke. that's right, he's 14 and done more with his life than you.

i'm joining pjb, and the ghost of. you guys continue to have fun at your clan rally. i'm out.

Pretty sure NAG is a racist term.

And we're back to anyone who disagrees with me or who has a difference of opinion is a racist argument. Pretty sure the biggest problem with this country is thin skin, liberal muzzling and political correctness.

Was this an actual goodbye post? Sweet!
We've all seen a few due to "hating", but this is the first due to racism (I believe).

Were you on L.I.? Looked super fun here this morning, wind even turned offshore-ish for a while. Sadly, no daylight hours for a stay at home dad.

I was out once in October (pre-kid) and saw a guy leave a kid that looked about two on the beach with a bucket and shovel while he paddled out. I mentioned this to my wife, she made it pretty clear this isn't an option.
