So i was thinking of moving to Cocoa Beach once i graduate and get a job. Whats it like there?? the people?? consistency of surf??? cost of living??? ect.. any information you could give me would be really apprectiated. thanx
I think there was a post with this exact question a while back. You may want to refer to older threads...
yeah a cnetral florida post I guy was asking about new symrna vs VB or somethin like that. Cost iof living chepaer than anything north, you will get more water time cause of the weather, power of surf lacks comapred to OBX and jersey etc. But laid back lifestyle
yea i must admit i have already read that forum. i was hoping for more information. i know they were saying new smyrna is the most consistant break on the east coast. is that true of all central FL or just that town. and sorry to ask so much, but is the average wave there good enough to shortboard on?? cause im not very fond of longboarding.
If you are into shortboarding, New Smyrna would be a better choice. If you are set on Cocoa Beach, learn to longboard. More consistent waves in New Smyrna. Warmer weather and water in Cocoa.
well.. kelly grew up there so i guess the surf in sufficient enough??? but probably never really stayed home though..I too plan on going south eventually. But some parts of florida are just plain scummy!
agreed with that last part!!! But yea i was down there this winter and it was small...and wasnt as warm as i expected
I lived in Cocoa beach for 4 years - it's a good base to surf from since it's 1 hr north to new smyrna and 1hr south to sebastian inlet and some other really fun spots in between like spanish house and patrick afb an rc's and indiatlantic, but cocoa beach itself isn't all that great in my opinion, its about as consistent as here in ocmd but nowhere close to the power as here or nj - it will hold big swell but the power is not there, i've ridden solid 12' face in cocoa beach and satellite beach that didn't have the power of a 3' overhead wave here The warmth is great and being able to get by with at most a 3/2 in jan-feb is really nice If it was me moving down there again I would look for something just a little further south like indiatlantic or melbourne beach where its a bit more consistent and a little more power, and those towns have less scum
