I was a Marine (I don't buy that once a Marine always a Marine crap) and I don't admit this.
I told my sons to join the Air Force. It's like going to technical college for free.
I will admit that the chicks who join the Coast Guard are pretty hot. The Marines usually get the dogs.
The Army and the Squids can suck my cocque.

Go to a college that has a lot of safe spaces. If you get triggered by something and feel uncomfortable, you are going to want to be able to get away from that situation quickly so you can relax with a binky and think about ponies and rainbows.

That's pretty much what college is now. A giant progressive liberal mind fvck filled with entitled people hating on more entitled people. Whoever said become a tradesman and surf your guts out for the rest of your life gave perhaps the best piece of advice I've seen on Swell Info.

Poli sci is a joke degree man, I dropped mine with two credits left but kept my b.s. degree in E.v.s. I was duel majoring in. They practically just hand polisci degrees out, definitely not highly educated. Evs degrees are also pretty useless as well however...

The institutionalized education system in america is garbage, terrible idea for one who wants to live on the periphery of society and surf all the time with no debt modest income and low stress....just like a credit card.

I did however just get off a 24 hour shift digging dirt which might not be a good option for most people either. For me I find more solace in being a government slave then an intellectual one

    Yup

    Yup. San Diego or nowhere

    Yup.

To the original question--- Burlington VT is a fun town and if you're into winter sports you'll have a good time. It's granola progressive.

Quinnipiac is in a cool spot. Good hiking across the street, just outside of new haven which is a cultural Mecca, and 1:15 from some good breaks. PM me and I'll blow up all the spots.

Just kidding pm me and I'll tell you to kill yourself, respectfully of course.

URI is a party school. If you wanna facbeechesgit$$$ that's your jam. If you like traffic and whores there's your jam.

There are a few st joes universities. I didn't read the thread so I'm not sure which one you're talking about. There is a st joes in Maine right on sebago lake less than an hour from the beach. You'll have to learn to wax your board with moose semen and blueberry jam, and you'll have to learn to eat moose testicle. It's a staple of the Maine diet.

    Yup, same here.
And my education also was a major contributor to my ability to retire early.
Now, does that mean education is for everyone?? No. And especially not for surfers--they are morons. Gardening or "landscaping" is their supreme intellectual achievement, but, some have achieved wealth even with that....rarely.

The value of a college education:

Spent a year at community college deciding if I wanted to do more drugs than school work. Lived at home. Chipped away at core curriculum. Cheap and smart move. Worked 25 hours a week and full time in the summer.

Spent two years at a state school for similar tuition, because I wanted to do drugs and schoolwork. Lived at home one year and in an apartment the next year. Worked 30 hours a week during school, full time in the summer. Went to school to be a history teacher: dumb move. (Science math and Spanish is where the jobs are)

Spent two years at an outta state private school, DUMB. Even with a scholarship. Dropped the education piece because it the classes didn't translate from state to state and would've kept me there even longer.

Studied abroad a semester in the mix: SMART. fucbeechesgitdorrah.

A degree in history has really helped me understand the world around me. And it's been pretty much useless. I've had really good jobs but getting them hasn't been easy.

I should've been an electrician or a watchmaker. Seriously always wanted to be a watchmaker.

My father was a manufacturing jeweler and made all kinds of custom pieces as well large orders for nursing schools, etc. I got turned off from it because I worked like a slave for him for years, not knowing I was working like a slave, because I thought all kids lived in sweat shops... Loved the man dearly but I did a lot of "manufacturing." Now I make sh!t for fun and a little profit now and then...

Anyhow.... In 3 years, after I "retire," I'm going to take classes at Cape Fear Community College and learn how to make wooden boats...

Not sure what this has to do with anything, but I'm going to post it anyway.

It's my lunch break. Going back to work after lunch is like going down on a 700lb yeasty Puerto Rican woman eith crotch acne welts, coming up for air, and returning to the yeasty abyss. Point being is that I hate my job and I have high blood pressure because of it. Pre-hypertension anyway. And I'm not educated for anything specific. So unless I want to throw my back out doing carpentry again, I've gotta keep doing this stressful abhorrent nonsense and try 700 times as hard to get a job that doesn't make me want to kill myself. So get a degree in something specific or trade if at all possible. And remember kids: debt is slavery!

    Back to the yeast.

My point is that you don't have to get a technical degree in college... My other point is that learning something that's fun for you is fine, as long as you have a long term game plan. I loved college and learning a bunch of stuff I didn't know before.

As for Yank's obsession with my education and career... I've never bragged or said I was better than. Some of the most successful people I know never went to college, and some didn't even graduate high school. What makes success varies from person to person. The only reason any of you know about my career it because Yank, Stank, Archy, etc. said that I must be a government employee or some other person who knows nothing about business due to my political beliefs. To refute that, I have to say what I do. Now Yank obsesses about my career and education, calling me "pretentious" because of my education and nothing but a "consultant" because I advise businesses on things like valuation (here are the requirements for that: http://www.go-iba.org/certification/certifiedbusinessappraisers.aspx). I can't figure out why he is so obsessed with me, but I think it says more about him than me.
