as a parent there is no way in hell i'm sending my kid to Cali for school just to surf! The flights to and from NJ for holidays etc, would be brutal.

San Diego State University is good if your gonna have a car. its about 15 minutes to the beach. the waves are way more consistent that the east coast but the crowds suck. its a lot easier to get into than UCSD too. good luck

im graduating from uncw in two months and its surf is def. a lot better than most people think! Yeah you only get two days of solid shoulder high + surf most months (maybe), but you get a solid swell most of the time in the fall and the rest of the year you can count on fun waist + days pretty often. The water isnt as cold as up north, but sure as heck not as warm as down south.

On the education side, the school has one of the best marine science fields in the nation! Im graduating with a recreation degree and am looking at going back for a grad degree in marine science. while at uncw in that field of study you are given opportunities to fly all over the tropical atlantic and south pacific...which you can bring surfboards with you.

Plus the night life is decent and you sure as hell wont find hotter girls anywhere else! :D

Good luck with whatever school you choose/get accepted to

Thanks guys... I agree with who ever said that Cali is worth it.. but parents who are paying alot of it will never let it happen. I feel that uncw will prolly be my first choice then monmouth then stockton. Flagler is kinda like a security choice since its prolly easier to get into being private.... Since im not trying to live at home for the rest of my life like some of the guys in that marine science article im putting that as stuff i still want to look into but maybe not going to study im kinda digging the history teacher act haha. Any body heard about coastal Carolina. anybody with more suggestions post it i love new ideas ha.
