    what could possibly go wrong?

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-all-u-s-coastal-waters-be-opened-to-drilling

The Trump administration is proposing to open almost all U.S. coastal waters to oil drilling, including those off California and Florida where activists have fought for decades to spare delicate ecosystems from oil spills.

The proposal released Thursday will go far beyond President Donald Trump’s April order directing the Interior Department to consider auctioning oil and gas leases in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans as well as the Gulf of Mexico.

Instead, the Interior Department is proposing 47 possible auctions of drilling rights in more than 90 percent of the U.S. outer continental shelf, including Pacific waters near California and Atlantic waters near Maine. The draft plan opens the door to selling leases in 25 of the nation’s 26 offshore planning areas, including 19 auctions of the Alaska region, seven in the Pacific region and nine in the Atlantic, including the straits of Florida.

The plan is unprecedented in its scope; no prior administration has ever proposed so many lease sales in a single five-year offshore drilling program. And the Obama-era plan Trump is aiming to replace forces drillers to focus on the central and western Gulf of Mexico with 10 sales there and one auctioning acreage in Alaska’s Cook Inlet.

The only region the Trump administration is ruling out now is the North Aleutian Planning Area in Alaska, which had been excluded from leasing by former President George W. Bush.

I would imagine DP321 wants one right at his local - unless he's getting tired of all this winning.

They can put them ALL off the shore of NH as far as I am concerned. The more the merrier!! Just buy oil stocks, then surf Tavarua, etc!!
So stop whining, boys. And who knows, maybe while you are banging your girlfriends on the beach, some ready made lubricant will wash ashore for your use!!! Be positive!! You guys always have such "bad attitudes" towards this.....

NJ waters were approved by Bush a long time ago, but there are no current proposed leases pending because Obama came in and banned it.

The platforms are actually good habitat and structure for fish and the sports fishing industry...

so you guys see no downside to this?

Oh, downside for sure, that being, we have to listen to the incessant whining of liberals that hate oil companies, but yet want to drive their oil based Range Rovers in to environmentally sensitive lands so they can feel "at one with nature". Yeah, that is a downside......<grin>

Idk I seem to recall some people in the Gulf Coast dealing with some serious problems due to some BP oil spill...something like that

We need oil. But I believe we have to stop thinking it's the best option to meet our energy needs. I think we need to invest in technologies that are cleaner and more sustainable so we can continue to use oil for the indefinite future to make durable goods.

Otherwise... go ahead... burn it all up. Then what? Then we'll be forced into the exact same situation I'm calling for now, but without the oil for products.

Maybe you should power that car that drives your ass to the beach with your oil based surfboard , with a set of gerbils in a treadmill!! hahahaha!!
You are all right kyle. I hate oil spill also. As for the offshore platforms, as it stands now, we don't really need them--that is your answer. Hell, we have fracking!!!

As long as they don't interfere with the wind farms that kill 1,000,000 birds an hour

Poorly designed turbines do kill a lot of birds and bats. The technology has a long way to go... but we need to get there, either now, or later when we don't have a choice. So I say, the sooner the better.

I would prefer this to wind turbines. They are a complete waste of money, aesthetic beauty, and the environment. I despise wind turbines, far more than the risk of oil spills.

I remember when the majority of Americans actually believed that nuclear energy was a cleaner and more efficient source of power.

I'm sure that all options currently on the table (oil, coal, wind and sun) will be obsolete before this century is over.

This is just classic Trump negotiation tactics...throw out the worst case scenario and force them to come to the table to negotiate. Don't want to negotiate? Whip out the worst case scenario, and see ya in court.

I wouldn't jump the gun on this one. Many of the places he's proposing to drill probably doesn't have enough oil to justify the effort.

    Wait and see

some birds die big whoop lol,its like 10 degrees out atm and imagine having no power,so basically no heat in these conditions so the evil birds can live at peace.

I got no problem with oil rigs its good for business.and an oil spill, big whoop who gives a poo.so u have to buy ur seafood from out of state,no worries.toxic seas during a continuous run of epic swell.im sure a wetsuit is good enough, maybe a little dust mask.iv been through worse, the environment will be fine

It's probably going to be a nothing sandwich. We have had a global glut of oil, prices have been crap for years, investment in offshore oil exploration has been dropping for years, and the big oil companies are actually selling off their offshore portfolios to focus on shale fields where new extraction techniques, e.g. fracking, have made those far more lucrative.

This reminds me of the Wayne Gretzky quote, "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been.". Trump skates to where the puck was 5 years ago.
