very rarely, water will splash up in my eyes and I'll loose a lens...but, seriously, haven't lost one in about 10 years (probably will now, though). Once I do lose one, that session is over. What also sucks is, just by instinct, I usually close my eyes through most of a barrel....but I'd rather wear contacts and have those few problems than see everything blurry.
j.allen well versed this issue. how bout it - you on this forum you ancient m/f who still looks middle-aged...? help that brother out...
never had an issue with the 30 day lenses I use. I don't open my eyes under water though. I always wondered if anyone does open with contacts?
never had an issue either, but i don't open my eyes under water. if it's setting up to be an especially open/clear barrel, i'll keep my eyes open, but that's a rarity around these parts. that said, i've lost 3 this summer...2 while bodysurfing (random splash of water into the face, & the lens was gone), & the third while doing my re-qualification swim for the beach patrol. goggles slipped off while punching through a wave & got my lens before i could close my eye. all completely flukey, random things. till this summer, i hadn't lost one in probably 4 or 5 years. point is, if you spend enough time in the ocean, eventually you WILL lose one. it's a matter of when, not if. just be prepared for that & you'll be fine. i keep a spare pair in my car in the glove box & another pair in my bag on the stand. better safe than sorry & i keep hoping that murphy will be appeased w/ all that redundancy.
Lost one one day this summer now I keep an extra pair w/ my glasses...trying to catch waves w/ f'd up depth perception was weird.
about 3 weeks ago I lost a contact in the water, first time in 15 years of surfing with them. lip smacked me in the face and I felt it come out of my eye. LUCKILY my buddy has the same script as me and carries spares with him in the car haha. Got to keep that session going for another 3 hours thanks to him. I bring my glasses with me as a backup now because it would not be a fun drive home with one eye, especially when you're as blind as I am
