Country bashing? No one is bashing this country only the bull**** laws and government policies that have been allowed to creep into every corner of our lives. Every day someone is branded a cop hater or anti American for having a different opinion is one more nail in the coffin. I did these things as a kid but was never arrested. I am thankful there are kids out there still willing to defy when the cause calls for it. Going down the beach would not have proven a point and thats what they were trying to do. Is surfing an hour after the storm a major cause that will change lives, probably not but it's a start.

Wow...just watched that. I wont get into the issue of cops and freedom but what the hell are those people doing yelling all this Situation and Jersey Shore bull****. My god! Who in their right mind gets into a run in with the cops over a legitimate beef and then starts in screaming about a fu@king MTV reality show?

Thanks for shooting that rDJ. Sad commentary.

Ha ha, did you see the bar DJs behind them? That is prime Jersey shore habitat, I have a friend that lives 10 houses up that street and I avoid walking to the beach after 9pm for fear of that place, lol. That's a good point though, this was a legitimate display until those morons started shouting that crap at the cops and disrespecting them in that way. If there was a part of this whole thing I don't like it's the creeps in the background.

 yup...you got me. 20 + years surfing, 10 years as an ocean lifeguard, more well traveled than most, a year-round surfer who can BIKE to the beach...total noob for sure. unlike you, who claims ocnj as your location, but really lives well inland.

& if that's all you have to say about my post, then i've FINALLY made my point.

In your ten plus years as an ocean lifeguard, have there ever been days when you have been ordered to keep people out of the water because people higher than you in the food chain have deemed it unsafe?

i once got a ticket for surfing in sspk for 'failure to obey lifeguard' and have twice had police on the beach call me in.in both cases i won the fight with very little effort.this here video, surfers who are not kids, they are adults, rude nasty onlookers and video kooks staging the entire fake thing make the police look pretty good from my viewpoint.this is a fraud.civil disobedience is acceptable, but these losers went looking for trouble,so don't go making heroes out of them.there were plenty of other places to surf on sunday.the one 'pro' i recognize here comes to my beach in the summer and is a totally disrespectful punk.his badass punk daddy supports it.he could've surfed here no problem sunday, the waves were great, and the pier was crowded with no police restrictions, either.

That is just the police force, clockin that Over time. They all sign up for time and a half during emergency situations... Im not mad at them for doing their job. Im mad because they were told to do that job.

A reminder to all: The police force is a J-O-B. There is no police draft. There is no forceful tactics to enlist officers. Police officers are nothing more than citizens doing their job. FOR MONEY. They never, ever ever HAVE to risk their lives. If ever the day comes and some crazy call comes in to go raid a druglords house. You can simple turn in your badge and find another JOB...

So while I do credit all police officers, and military personal. In both cases, they have volunteered their services and their lives for Pay.... If either of these jobs didnt pay, we would not have a police force...

But a guy working in waste disposal is doing just as important of a service, FOR PAY.... so if police dont want to be scrutinized, and if they dont want to hold themselves to higher stadnards, then they should be a teacher. Or a mechanic or any other trade they can find....

No body begged a cop to be a cop. Some don't get paid like they should. true. Some risk their lives, TRUE....

But i have had numerous cars stolen, on both coasts. Ive had my house broken in to. I have had times in my life, DOZENS of times in my life where I needed police help. They never came through. They never tried to find my car, they just waited until it was stripped and they "stumbled upon it".... Its a shame this day in age... People steal your wallet, use your credit card all over town. Cops wont lift a finger. The bank will re-emburse you so they dont care....

So, this is not an anti-cop statement. This was not even a response to the video. This was a response to a lot of the comments made on this thread. About the high and mighty, life risking police...

Its like surfing. If you are afraid of the ocean, or risking your life in big surf. Dont do it. We dont have to. No one is forcing us to do these things... Just like our JOBS.... If you dont like arresting people and getting shot at, then be a pharmacist. ya know? We dont draft police. And unfortunately, in a lot of states, they have lowered their standards completely to allow underqualified, questionable character individuals, carry badges and guns...

When cops make decisions. arrests. citations. Peoples lives can change. Thats what most people have a problem with. That some guy, whoever that may be could have your future, your livelyhood on the line if they disagree with you, or decide to be a di**....

    jsut sayin

The more money they waste on police overtime is less money in budget for pumping sand this is good.

I actually need to change that, since I'll be a VA Beach resident come September 17th, so thanks for the reminder. But on the other note, who goes around calling themselves a waterman? And a seasonal life guard on the jersey shore doesn't really qualify for much. And yes I currently live in Iowa, thanks for blowing my cover bro! And if you are so hardcore, why don't you live your life as a true waterman in a hardcore place where you can do other waterman activities...such as scuba diving, spear fishing, free style diving..ect. I don't believe a lifeguard for 10 seasons and a surfer for 20 years really qualifies as **** compared to others out there. Go to HI and tell them you're a waterman from jersey because you have surfed and been a lifeguard that long and see what they have to say to you.

bottom line is the surfers and a s s holes punking the cops were wrong. everybody should stop bellyaching about how 'the man' is taking over theyre lives. piss off. that same 'jerkoff' cop would put his life in jeopardy to save yours without even hesitating.bunch of whiners go somewhere not safe where you may have to fend for yourself and youd be screaming for them. jackoffs.

first, i don't "go around" calling myself a waterman. i used that term to simply illustrate a point about ocean/water skills as compared to others. you're right, compared to guys like mark healey & countless others, i'm nothing. nor do i pretend to be. i wouldn't paddle out in the sorts of conditions he does. i would likely die or put others at risk. but i KNOW that...& if i were dumb enough to paddle out, i would be ready to accept any consequence that befalls me, up to & including my death. but it would be MY choice.
second, who said anything about guarding on the "jersey shore"? i sure never did...so watch your assumptions.
third, i do all of those things (i use a hawaiian sling, not a spear gun), minus the scuba diving...i can also sail a boat single-handedly, prone paddleboard (i own a jow bark stock-class 14'), surf any type of equipment from a bodyboard up to a classic longboard w/ skill & style, paddle an outrigger canoe...but i have never SUPed. so yea...i've built up an extensive skill set based around ocean activity. i CHOOSE to live where i do, & if that makes me less hardcore to someone living in iowa, then oh well. i think i'll live.
fourth, if i did as you suggest, i'd likely be greeted w/ respect b/c, unlike you, those guys are a pretty welcoming group, as long as you don't act like a jackass. but again, i don't go around referring to myself as a waterman. you blew my use of that term way out of proportion. i may, on occasion, say that i attempt to live the life of a waterman, but that's only b/c i do...i try to adhere to the waterman ethos as best i can, while living where i choose to.

I've been surfing for 20 + years and have been a cop for 5 years. I'm on the fence in this case. The surfer in me is bothered by the fact that other surfers were being told that they weren't allowed to go in the water. The professional in me can clearly see that these cops were merely enforcing the laws put before them that day. So many things could have gone wrong in this situation that it's not worth mentioning each one of them. NOBODY on this site (cause if your on here then i'm assuming you are more than likely a legit surfer with experience) who surfed before/during/after Hurricane Irene can honestly say they weren't overwhelmed by the amount of inexperienced surfers/spongers/swimmers flocking to the ocean! I've never seen so many boards as yellowed by age and in such bad shape as I did this past week. When's the last time you saw a "Blue Hawaii" (BH) surfboard on sale in a surf shop? Come on now. People were apparently pulling surfboards out of storage and wiping away inches of dust just to say to their buddy in the cubicle next to them "I surfed Irene dude". I witnessed MANY close calls where the inexperienced nearly caused severe injury to themselves and others. Add to that that NJ was the go to spot for kooks from CT to NC and the ocean was a freaking circus for several days! These cops in the video respond to each one of those beach first aid calls year-round and have seen countless times that the inexperienced and the ocean are not a good combo. Who knows...maybe there were several first aid calls for injured bathers in the previous days that lead them to this decision. This was Belmar's way of trying to prevent those occurrences that day so that they could use their manpower in a more productive manner by tending to the rest of their community (tax payers) and assisting with power outages, downed wires/trees, flooding and other requests for service. The fact that these cops were being verbally harassed is apalling. Anyone who was involved in that or agrees with them should be ashamed of themselves. It's not only blatant disrespect for authority but blatant disrespect for another human being...period. These cops were just doing their job (I know some people hate that saying but it's true). Hey...I don't necessarily agree with a lot of the laws I'm told to uphold on a daily basis. Do I really care if you don't "Buckle-Up"? No. Do I really care that your car failed inspection? No. BUT...when I'm working that's what my Chief and the NJ Attorney General want me to care about and if I don't then I'll be sure to hear about it come time for my review. These cops may not have agreed with closing the ocean but they had no choice that day. Your damded if you do...damded if you don't.

If there is anyone to blame it is insurance companies. They are the ones who lobby the government to make laws so that they don't have to shell out money to idiots who do idiotic things.
