@JayD would you do Negra over Grande if you had the time? I just thought Grande looked kinda weak from looking at cams and since it's in a "bay" but I could have been looking at the wrong times.

Good question. Honestly, I have never been to CR in January. I usually go late spring or early summer. I think Grande gives you more variety but if both (grande and Negra) are firing, Negra is hard to beat. both are fickle. Tough call. I still think Grande though with the short stay.

Nosara. 2 hr drive from Liberia and one of the most consistent breaks around.

I dunno people say it's crowded but last time I was in Nosara there was tons of room since it was a long, spread out beach break. But we also went in the off season. Honestly have never really been to a crowded area in CR (other than maybe Guiones.) Anything is better than up here on the East Coast. Thinking of going with Negra. Never been, heard good things and thinking the drive wont be too bad.

Oh man, I have been at crowded Grande on a good swell. The A frame right at the north end of the beach near the Rip Jack gets super jammed. The waves are not a great as you tail off south. But if you walk half way to Tamarindo there is a nice wave out in front of a condo development. Beware, man, the sand gets hot. I have surfed the north side of the river mouth too, but now I am spooked by the reptile crowd. Walked across that estuary to Tamarindo bunch of times.
