I was wondering if anyone could give me any help at all. During the second week of June I get to tag along on my buddys family trip to Costa Rica. They got some sort of deal cuz last year the resort canceled on them or something. But anyways were staying at Paradisus playa conchal. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about where the best surf is around there, and just what to expect/need to know, etc. any help would be appreciated as i have never surfed outside the country.

Paradisius is the nicest resort i have ever seen. it is fan-fargin-tastic. food, drink and accommodations are world class. nice golf course if you are into that. snorkeling and kayaking in the cove in front of the resort is nice. if you leave the resort and walk north, up and down a hill for about 300 yards you come to a little reef break called 'brasilito.' it breaks at high tide only. I surfed it a couple of years ago while staying at paradisius. a very easy wave to catch and ride. not much of a challenge, but lots of fun. lots of young locals surf there and everybody is friendly. the left breaks longer, and the right is steeper and faster.

rent a car or take a taxi to playa grande for some more of a challenge. that is about a 20 minute drive away. rent a car or take a taxi into tamarindo--about a 30 minute drive. roads are bumpy, but easy to navigate--signs tell you where to go.

you will not regret going to this place it is fargin awesome.

this is the wave at brasilito. not a challenge. a nice intoduction to travel surfing. easy paddle out, no leash required. nice scenery. friendly locals.

if the airline does not rape you on oversize baggage, bring a board (a fish is great). if you cannot bring a board, there is a High Tide Sports outfitter on the resort (or at least there was two years ago when we stayed there). they rented kayaks and boogie boards, and could probably get a board sent in from their main shop in tamarindo.

be nice to the ticos (locals) and they will be great to you. the only wankers i met down there were american. don't leave valuables lying around unattended. be careful of rocks (and the sea urchins in them). wear lots of waterproof sunscreen.

pm me if you want more info or to see pics of the resort.

I am also going to Costa but in December/January to Playa Hermosa. Does anyone know how the surf is around there during that time of the season?

playa hermosa on the central pacific coast is fairly consistant. you'll most likely see chest high sets everyday. surf at high tide. let me know if you need a price quote for staying with us. i can give 10% discounts to swell info members.
