I picked up a used, 8-4, light green one of these ugly things over 6 years ago from a local surf shop for about $100. It had been used for lessons but was in fairly decent shape.
Much more rugged and heavy than the usual softie, the thing is a tank and great in low surf, low tide conditions when you might ruin a good long board in a close out. There are times when I still use it. I've replaced the fins several times. It will catch most anything and can actually be fun.
As a bonus, I was able to use it to get our special needs daughter out on the water.

I have a 7-8’ red foamie that’s been solid and isn’t a cheap one by any stretch, collecting dust. My daughters first bort. Flexible fins too. Your welcome to it - just pay to make it fly if your inclined. Or if your in decent driving distance, that too.
