he is still and always was a very boring person unless he's on a surfboard.his awkward is nothing like dane's speeches.

that's not saying much these days.used to be some pros were interesting.what exactly did he say here that was so interesting?i personally think you have a lot more interesting ideas, opinions, way with words than he does, but you probably don't surf Rincon or sandspit quite as good.

definitely don't surf as well! lmao! i wish i did...

it wasn't anything overt in this interview that grabbed me. i just like the way he just kind of lays it out there, "this is who i am & how i feel about things. take it or leave it." i feel like most pros, even older ones like curren, are still sort of trying to portray some kind of image. i like how curren admits that he's not always the happiest guy & that surfing maybe isn't as interesting to him as music is anymore. he's humble, & not in a forced way. he seems grateful & slightly baffled that he's managed to make a living as a surfer for so long.
is he articulate & well spoken? hell no. but he uses his adult words & doesn't drop a single "bro" in the entire thing.

good points,42.he's not portraying a phony surfer or musician image.he is a real person.and humble.and a boring speaker.and he sucks at music and is the most unbelievably great surfer.i think more pros today are not only boring but really brainless because they are little rich-kid home-schooled entitled morons.the drugs and drunken stupor doesn't help, either.some older pros have brains, like Hynd,MR,Simon,Shaun,Rabbit,Lynch,Nat,BK,Lopez,etc..

Frank Lloyd Wright, Erwin Schrodinger, C. S. Lewis, Thomas Edison, Margaret Atwood

These are all home schooled morons

He's always been kind of a loner. I remember reading a Surfer Mag article about him. He was in Japan for some reason. There was a typhoon off the coast. Some surfers boated out to a outside reef and found him there ripping by himself.
I believe if he and Slater (both in their prime) were to have a surf off, He'd win.

don't base your assessment of his musical skill on this video alone. he's actually fairly decent...not a clapton or bb king or anything, but he's certainly not a hack. have you ever listened to the Ocean Surf Aces album he did back in the 90s (92 or 93, i think)?

who says anyone has to cater to your liking...i think the real problem is that everyone these days are so judgmental and expects everybody to entertain them, and when they don't meet up to an expected criteria, it's blast 'em...they're f^ckin' stupid...who the f cares how well any of these guys are at public speaking...they speak through their surfing and that's what got the attention drawn to them in the first place.

^^^^^speaking through surfing, or expressing one self through surfing is where Tom Curren articulates himself to a degree we could only dream of.

I wish he would smile once in a while though. If I surfed 1/4 of the waves he has, I'd have an eternal sh!t eating grin.

I didn't post these threads, calm down.i agree.i don't care if people can speak well, but both the Dane and Curren interviews were posted,so I gave my opinion.that's what we're here for, isn't it?i don't have to bow down to them, though I do when watching them ride waves.i post like .6 posts per day on average since april 2008-how about you?you're slightly ahead(or behind), and i'm not judgemental, here,i just wanna watch them surf, not accept awards,do boring interviews or play crap music.sorry if you don't like it.Curren does not come across as stupid to me,but Dane does, though it likely is his act.he is laughing all the way to the bank.if everyone was so judgemental i'd call the kettle black and blast you instead, but i'm not,i'm trying to respect that we are swellinfo and you can have an opinion that does or does not enjoy surfers being boring or stupid out of the water,i.e., dane is the least stupid when surfing, and curren the least boring when surfing.sorry I don't drink the Kool-Aid on a 16 minute video that says nothing and plays beginner music.

I've surfed with Curren. He's a real quite, but nice guy. It was weird, he came out and ripped 5 waves, then ditched his board and was just swimming around watching my buddy and I surf.
