I used to do dawn patrol, then I got old.

 

Dawn patrol is most deffinitly before sun rise. I like to get in the water when the sun's still below the horizon, but it's close enough to brighten that sky up a bit. Then you watch the sun as it rises above the horizon from the water. That's like 5 AM. By 6 the sun's fully risen this time of year.

Sometimes, due to work and what not. I'm out in the dark, and get out of the water by sunrise. Is that still dawn patrol or does that have another name?

I call that Moon Patrol, and it's really fun when the waves are good and there is enough moon light to see

 

Never done it, but West Coast dawn patrol must be better due to not having to stare towards the sun...

 

The sun rise is the best part! But yeah, some days I know what you mean. It doesn't bother me too much, I just hold one hand up to block it when sitting during a lull

I think one of the cool things about EC DP is that because the sun is behind you, there is that brief moment (provided the swell is big enough), that the wave "eclipses" the sun (because it is so low on the horizon), and it gets a little darker as the wave lurches behind you on take off... kind of eerie but cool nonetheless.

 

Yeah man, it's a cool thing for sure, kinda helps with timing, when the shade happens it's time to boogie!

 

I think we can all agree we see the sun rise every morning no matter where u live lol.i normally get to watch the part before the sunrise when the sky goes from black to purple on my drive every morning.its definitely a view,and it also depends on which way ur driving but everyones going to see it.but if I'm in the water, pre dawn is the best but I havnt done a sesh like that in years.i just cant wake up early on the weekend unless its epic,i don't sleep late lol but I'm not getting out of bed before 10

 

By 10am I've already taken a sh*t, gotten laid, smoked out, surfed for 2-3hrs, eaten breakfast and smoked again. Lol

 

Sounds fun by 10am im ready to suck start my pistol.
