ruptured Achilles 6 years ago and it got infected in the cast! 3 surgeries just to remove dead tissue! 4 more surgeries to move part of calf into a hole that was left from the infection! that took 2 years to recover involving skin graphs ect. my point is I never thought id be able to use a ladder all day like I do! instead I rehabed it and horrified my family when I said I was trading in my crutches for a surf board! they laughed but 7 years later I feel great and surf all year! youll be fine just go slow and listen to your body! PEACE! PS, I was 41 when it happened! good luck!

I am 54 and it is so chronic we are trying non-surgical treatment.
Surgery for me would have a greater than 50% failure rate.
My old, worn out achilles is rotted away bad.

Apparently there are great advancements in recovery/treatment with achilles tendon rupture non-surgical treatment.
No cast, no surgery, no infection, but as with anything no guarantees, either.

RICE and physical therapy.
Walking boot only when up walking.

Started out with boot/crutches.

Now i am much stronger in only two weeks!

Two weeks into pt.
Full weight bearing on heel with walking boot.
Off crutches.
Doing great.
so far.

If you can walk, let alone surf, you don't know how good you got it.
Do not complain.
