Barry these are not rich people they are wealthy people. If it doesn't pass this time they will try again and again until it does pass or they will sneak it by some other way. Sad but truw

I like to chime in on these local stories since deal is 13 minutes away from me.

first off,deal is not a beach town,its a stretch of land occupied by mansions and mini mansions.its like a secluded patch of land u drive past and never know.the beaches are private,meant for the residents.thats how a lot of beaches are over here,i surf nothing but private beaches.

its one of those gems that ,in the past it used to u have to know someone to get to these spots.like all this stretch of coast,u don't just drive up and see the beach,u have to park,walk a few minutes before u even see the water.ocean isn't visible...the whole stretch of coast I surf theres a damn wall blocking it and u have to know where to look.

so problem is,its winter time,ur normal spots are weak and crowded,ur boy calls u up and says deal is firing,etc and now u go and u cant park on the streets!!like I said its like a secluded neighborhood,theres no stores or nothing,theres literally nowhere else to park except for infront of those houses.so if u want to surf this spot u have to park far far away

 

deal is the type of town where you'd get pulled over driving a beater lol.if u don't have a benz or beemer u do not belong in the town.they see u driving an old Toyota lol they think ur there for burglaries...

I broke down there once,in my red 91 geo prizm,like 10yrs ago.my serpentine belt fell off.within 5 minutes of being parked cops rode up on me.all good they left...then I went back the next day to put a new belt on so I can drive away lol,and cops showed up again

 

Not really. I'm not from jersey so i won't comment on how it is there. But i will say iv traveled down for day trips before. Never paid for parking. But of course that's one day here and there. The locals I'm sure would have a bigger issue with paying/tickets

As for here in LI, i never pay for beach access. Excel for the 4x4 pass to get on certain 4x4 beaches. Allot of beaches do sell a parking pass to use the lot, but they only check on the way in. Get there before they start checking or after and your fine. You can be parked in the lot all day, as long as no one was checking when you pulled in you don't pay. And that's only during summer. Rest of the year, no paying what so ever.

What's BS is Deal getting a 40 mil beach replenishment funded by the very taxpayers they are going to keep out!

 

they are not keeping ppl out. they are just charging for parking which happens every day, every where in this country.

why in the actual fvck are ppl so outraged?

 

Same up here in MA. You can't park in Scituate, Cohasset, most of Gloucester, Nahant, Plum Island, etc... Hampton in NH is all metered, right Barry? Free, easy parking is rare up here unless you know where to park and then that's small spots for 1-2 cars a lot of time.

 

because they ARE keeping people out (or trying to) these are RESIDENT ONLY parking permits. If you live there, you get permits. If you don't, you don't. The sole purpose of the proposed ordinance is to keep outsiders out, its really pretty clear. Parking meters are a little bit different than that.

These are public roads next to publicly maintained beaches. Any justification to prohibit you or me from being able to park on that street should be a little bit more defensible than "we don't like seeing surfers changing in front of our house".

paying for parking sucks don't get me wrong. not being able to go in the water is flat out wrong.

 

but lets get straight to it

this is a million dollar neighborhood right? the article in the OP calls the area "wealthy". lol because the narrative is class warfare.

it's a nice beach community not walmart. you might need to pay to park or pay to clean the place up.

 

Maybe the proposed ordinance would seem more palatable if it were initiated by the township for the purpose of revenue necessary to clean and maintain the shoreline area, as opposed to being initiated by a couple of well heeled owners with the possible intention of discouraging outsiders parking near their homes.

Believe me, I am fully aware of the class warfare narrative, because it has been a frequent tool which has been grossly overused in the last 8 years, particularly by the rich elite to stir up feelings from the lower classes for political purposes. But in light of the fact that the true intentions of this particular group of owners has already been publicly laid bare, the point is moot.

Good examples are La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs in SD. These properties rival Deal NJ, yet nobody has ever proposed such ordinances. Parking is at a premium, and surfers regularly drop trou in front of gazillion dollar homes.

Moral of the story: You can buy the property, but you have no claim of ownership beyond your surrounding sidewalk. You don't own the streets, beaches or any other infrastructure.

Check your land title when in doubt

 

yeah you have a point....twice before they proposed parking permit systems that only residents could get.

This time they spritzed the dog **** with some lysol, and a non-resident can buy the permit.

I still see it as solely intended to exclude outsiders from parking. They dont even mention revenue as a reason for the ordinance.
