    Dear Mr. Baxter,

Let’s begin by saying you own an ornate-ability on your skim-board. We are going to do this the peaceful way. No fighting on the beach. Do not jeopardize the safety of others. Do not make threats.

If you could have heard the unanimous voice from within the line-up, within the community and behind the dunes then you’d see that you’re over-stepping your boundaries. No one will ever say, “Bill you can’t lawn-mower" at Southside.” That is your Merican’ liberty. Not one surfer cut you off, but you have slayed a plenty.

Yesterday, you repeatedly came within “INCHES” of the faces of surfers. Your lawn-mower, more so the cable in the froth, is a f*cking hazard. Let’s state the facts: you were the first person on that particular stretch of beach, you were engulfed by hungry tube riders and your lawn-mower created animosity within the line-up. No one, including the author which isn't me but might be, is saying this: “move your lawn-mower when the line-up grows.”

Mr. Herlihy - as a 30-something year old man - decided upon himself that unless it is Island Style – that the ski had pissed some people off - and it was time to draw a red-line on the conditions needed to use a ski. Colin didn't piss anyone off, it was simply the ski. The O’Boyles were also given a proper talking to about their ski and when they can use it. In both cases, they have been in contact with US Coast Guard officials, and were given the option(s) of "legal vs. moral" decisions.

Almost everyone is on board. Let’s keep it safe, but you’re going to have to take it upon yourself to move down the beach with your lawn-mower, and thrash-it elsewhere. The boys respect you, your crew and your skill-set. It’s amazing. Keep it up, but – please – make better choices that will easily sort this mess out.

    Until next time,
    The Delaware Port Authority

    Interesting, and seemingly diplomatic.

More stupid Delaware surfers vs. skimmers BS. The waves in Delaware are so bad/shorebreaking that there are actually skim vs surf issues AT THE BETTER spots. Its a joke to begin with, and easier to have the confrontation anonymously behind an internet screen name.

When did it become a "thing" in delmarva with the PWCs? Other than the Sandy Session from the Wyldlife guys, I haven't seen one day that even remotely requires this. I know things were different many moons ago, but really? I have never seen or heard of this ANYWHERE on the east coast outside of DE/MD?

Can someone that still lives up there shed light on this strange phenomenon? Last I checked there were PWC laws that prevent a ski being anywhere near the shore in that area, regardless of the time of day or season.

I mean, I get the whole lawnmower thing, but again, why are those things only popping up in DE? I have never seen any legit skimming footage anywhere else with guys using those things. I would say if you can't get into a wave on a skimboard the old fashion wave, is it really a skim wave anyway? Shore break or not, skim it or don't. It looks fun, but if you require that kind of equipment to even get into the wave, you should probably give up that hobby.

It's just a motorized box like the ones that wake boarders use when there is no boat pulling them. If you go back and watch that OC/DE surf video where everyone could vote for the top rider, there were a couple clips of guys using them in it.

Yeah, I mean Delmarva. Not that it's the only place on earth that uses them, but Delmarva seems to be the only region where I consistently see these things in video and online. I just want to know why? I understand they get more speed and all that, but isn't that like, cheating in the skim board world? I mean, if you have to use a sling shot to get out far enough to get into the wave, shouldn't you just be, um... surfing?

That would be hilarious to see someone being pulled by an actual lawnmower.

Kind of like getting towed into and/or doing "step-off's" at 4'-5' foot beachbreak. Seriously?
