I think we should have a section on this site where everyone can rate their board(s) And include in the rating their height/ weight what kind of wave the board is best for Etc.. it would be great to be able to decide what board to get based on reviews as opposed to guessing

not a bad idea. it can help some of the new people, or if they need a step-up board, fish, longboard, etc.

Can of worms, brother. I know what you're saying, and yea... it's fun to talk about boards and experiences. But that's not going to give you the information I think you're looking for. Board choices are so subjective... what works for one person may not work for another. I may give a really bad review to a board that somebody else may find magic... and visa versa.

The best source of information about how a board will work in what kind of surf, for what kind/size rider comes from the designer. All boards are designed for an intended rider and wave. If you're really looking for information to buy a board, talk to a shaper. There should be one in your area who's familiar with the local conditions, understands what you're looking for, is knowledgable about design, and experienced enough to posses the skills needed to execute what you've articulated.

I like that idea. LBCrew is right - you gotta consult the shaper for the boards intended purpose but theres nothing wrong with reviews. Its nice to read a review from someone who really tried it out. Especially since demos are almost a thing of the past.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Product reviews in general are certainly a valuable resource for the community... It is something that I have thought of a while back, just got to get through through the front runners on the priority list.

They're all broke, brother. It's tough to compete with the major labels, the vast majority of which are computer designed, machine shaped, and glassed by cheap overseas foreign laborers. Find a local shaper, and talk to him. Be clear about what you want your board to do and where you surf. Bring him the board you currently ride. Don't give him numbers, unless you know a lot about design yourself, and have set numbers you know are your preference. Have him build you a board. and if you like it, tell your friends.

That's the best form of advertisement anyway.

Absolutely talk with local shapers. They know more about design and needs than anybody. I wont buy boards that are made over seas unless its by McTavish or someone that makes them by hand. I'd rather support our locals anyday. Boards are a piece of art to me and my best friend when I'm in the water. Look at how you surf or how you'd like to surf. What kind of waves will you mostly ride. Are you looking at multiple boards or just one that can do it all, so to speak. Yes, Pump is right on. Get that Magic Board! You'll know when you find it. good idea starting a forum on board reviews
