idk man banks were sweet dont get me wrong i was there every weekend there was no waves, but have you skated chelsea?
this all comes down to the guy that owns that mansion on the point not letting them use his land to reinforce the sea wall thereby forcing them to come via sea. the answer is simple, we burn down that guys house.
One way to slow things down would be to start "reporting" sightings of indigenous endangered wildlife in the area. I know this creates alot of angst locally in my area when someone's project is derailed because of a bog turtle or tree frog. Then the project must be revised to accomodate said animal, but only after intensive ecological study which can set the project back a year or so. I would not condone this in typical situations, but if it were to save a stand out EC break then thats a different story. Case in point, look at how piping plover has restricted access to areas of the outer banks. Their breaks are still in tact.
i dont get why they would want to put a jetty in there its all legde. Its not like its gonna erode. they could easily just repair the cliffwalk with concreat for short money.
I'm sorry but this is a bad strategy that damages the credability of the environmental community. Someone with local conservation biology expertice can do a survey (staring with a computer search) for the potential or known occurences of federally listed species on site. (S)he can also review the potential for the project to affect listed species in the area. If any, they can be reported to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. To blow smoke will backfire.
Im having a hard time picturing where these temporary jetties are going to be put. does anyone know enough to mark up this photo ruggles?
I think that's a fair point, and I would hope that if the spot was saved that the vibe would be a bit more welcoming, at the very least out of gratitude that it actually still exists. I've personally never surfed there, I'm usually in the South County to Pt Judith area...I've talked w/ ppl in the water who claim to have had bad vibes there, only heresay, but take it for what it's worth. @Fitz- don't know the place well enough to pinpoint where the proposed jetties will be, but it seems like they'll be in the worst possible places in terms of impacting the break.
damn just read the surfline article. good luck RI guys. from the looks of this you're gonna need it. Is there anyway the rest of us can do anything besdes calling our local surfrider chapters to help support them?
Class warfare BS and emotional arguments aren't productive and will make your job harder. it sounds like there is a good alternative so pursue that rationally.
Its crazy how life goes in a circle..Went there to surf awhile back and got some really bad vibe worst session ever..hmmm wonder if i should sign this petition?
I went and surfed there with one friend in March a few years ago. Some prick keyed my car while I was in the water. I presume for having Jersey tags, because there was no incident to speak of. It was awesome to surf such a renowned East Coast wave, but the vibe was laughable. Stinkeye from miserable locals riding boards that would better suit MUCH bigger waves. Karma? Still don't want to see this kind of thing happen anywhere though. Best of luck in stopping the push of the almighty dollar.
The localism aspect of Ruggles is overblown. Don't get me wrong, I've certainly heard the horror stories, and been on the receiving end of a few looks, but like anywhere else, if you show respect, for the most part no one is going to bother you. Don't let the actions of a few pricks and an exaggerated reputation fool you, and certainly don't let that deter you from wanting to save the wave - lord knows we're starved for classic waves that can hold the size around here. uh-oh, i mentioned the man upstairs, where's wayne?
ive never had any bad vibes at ruggles. once and a while there will be someone out dropping in on people thinking he is the man, but that Sh!t happens at every break. Ive got mass plates and never had a problem. worst stuff ive seen is over at second beach when its chest high and theres 150 people out. people at eachothers throats over crap waves.
